Hello everyone. Im new to all of this so please be kind

My dog went into heat in the 4th of november. I rang my vets to book her to be spayed but they said they had to do it after her hear cycle ended. I did my best to keep her away from male dogs but she was very sneaky with getting next door to the male dog. When i would let her out to go to the toliet she escaped over the fence and out the garden a few times and ended up breeding with him. I took her to the vets to confirm pregnancy after noticing some weight gain and nipples enlarging. After a scan it was confirmed at estimated 30 days.  Ive been doing my research as much as possible and i have the number for an emergency vets in case of complications.

Today she has been in her whelping box most of the day. Refused food apart from a couple treats. She has been shaking a little. But no sign of loosing her mucus plug. Her temp is 37. Usually around 37.6. Shes also been digging alot and cant seem to get comfortable.

When she was scanned we saw 2 pup for definate maybe a 3rd but i sleep next to her alot with my hand on her stomach and I'm sure i can feel 3 or 4.

Is she likely to go into labour soon. I estimated shes about 58 days. How long before labour does she loose her mucus plug?
Just incase it matters shes a small cross breed.

And i will also vet all potential pup owners before allowing them to go anywhere. Thats if i cant convince my partner to let us keep them.

Thank you

I am rather surprised your vet did not offer the Alizin injection (can be given up to 42 days after mating and normally after the season finishes so no chance of bitch being mated again that cycle) or even a  gravid spay for your girl, problem sorted.

As for labout hwo long is a piece of string.

I have had bitches have their pups from 5 days before and 4 days past due date from first mating.

I have had bitches show little signs of labour and present a puppy almost right away and had one go 36 hours before producing puppies.

I have had al 5 pups born in little over an hour and had 4 hours between pups.

there is infinite variation and everything normal and things can go wrong even with little time between stages and pups.

do you have an experienced breeder friend who knows your bitch who can be with you.  it is best that someone experienced is on hand at any whelping.  Otherwise it's like having your best friend with no medical training attempting to deliver your baby.

Most vets unless breeders know little about whelping other than doing C sections so are of limited help.

Thank you for the advice. She successfully whelped 4 beautiful pups without any complications. All feeding well.. all good size.. mum comfortable and looking content.
