bitch is 7 and a half months old and my dog is 11 months she's on her first season. we've tried to keep them separate but I forgot to lock one of the doors and with them being a working breed and very clever he's got to her. I was upstairs and heard he cry came down to find them back to back . so my question. is can she be pregnant and if so what will happen to her will she be OK or am I best to get termination. thanks x

Yes she might very well be in whelp, and it's a very bad thing for her at this very young age. In my opinion the best thing to do is take her to the vet and tell them what has happened. There is an injection that can be given that should prevent the pregnancy from continuing.

This happened to 2 of mine so you aren't the only one. We rang our vets the next morning and took her straight down for the Alazine injection, with a second jab at the recommended interval. You must make sure that they are then strictly kept apart as the vet can't give her another injection if they mate again.

Please, please don't let her have a litter at this age, she's still a baby herself and with neither of them old enough for their health tests, the injections are the best way forward.

Your bitch will have not reached full maturity yet, and therefore I would take her to the vets to terminate. I would also be thinking of more robust methods of keeping them apart for in the future, or getting one or both neutered if you are not planning on health testing and breeding.

Alizin will most often be administered at the end of the current season tom ensure that it is given after an y possible mating in that season.

Alizin is far more effective than the older products especially if administered in this way when the season has definitely finished.

To reduce the possibility of lack of expected efficacy, avoid the use of Alizin until after the end of oestrus and avoid new mating before the end of oestrus."
