Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Microchipped - what next?
- By Charlie Brown [gb] Date 29.12.15 16:43 UTC
I've just had my litter microchipped ready for their new homes and can't quite remember what the vet said about registering them with the chip company.

I thought she said I can register them online directly into the new owners name, as the vets will register them with the company in my name as the breeder?

Does this sound right? Or could she have said I have to register them all online into my name and the new owners have to pay to update them into their names?

At the moment you can register directly to new owners BUT from 1st April the first registered owner must be breeder - so in short the choice is yours :)

Unless you are a qualified chipper with your own PetLog number, you cannot register the chips online. You can post the forms (if they are chips which allow for registration via post -some are online only and those are cheaper) but the person who chipped will otherwise have to do the online reg.

I registered my litter's chips online (not with petlog though, annibase instead), and registered them straight to new owner's names. It would have cost the new owner's another £15 to change the registered owner of the dog so rather than add additional cost, I thought it would be easier that way.... Whilst we still can anyway.

I had a company come out and do mine and they left me with the paperwork so I put them directly into the owners name at time of sale

At least alter April the Transfer of the chip will be free using Petlog if they transfer the KC reg, and they will get Petlog Premium, so able to update their details for life with no extra payment.

Can't use petlog as my vet uses identichip which are supported by Anibase . Have no choice re who chips as we dock so must be our vet. At end of day not a big cost to absorb - would rather pay myself and ensure transfer done

Thanks for your replies...I took second litter for check and chip today and was told just to pass the paperwork to the new owner to register online themselves.

Thought I might register the pups into the new owner name and address myself...then I know it's been done!

I already have pups left in my name on the KC because they've not been re registered in the new owner name....
