Topic Other Boards / Foo / Non slip walking shoes??
- By Star [gb] Date 30.12.15 07:33 UTC
Any suggestions for some non slip walking boots/shoes? I don't walk miles and miles but in wooded areas where it can be slimy/muddy/slippy with leaves etc.
Went up in the air the other day and that was on a flat area where the verge was all slimy. Only pride hurt :-D
I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds and nothing too heavy like a hiking boot. Obviously have wellies but these don't have tread either where there is mud etc. Thanks in anticipation of suggestions

I brought myself some clampons to fit on my walking shoes and boots. In the frost and ice/snow really kept me grounded.

My hiking boots came from Northwest Territory.    They have big tread which helps me to keep my footing.   They are said to be waterproof, but I give them extra treatment.  They are not Wellies!

Like these, only mine are green (kaki) coloured.  As I remember, I bought them from Ebay

I have often bought from Charity shops, and got some good bargoons too, but I tend to draw the line at shoes........

I bought a pair of these back in the spring & so glad, they never rubbed my heal once. http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-mount-low-ladies-walking-shoes-187037?colcode=18703703
Although my tip for trainers/boots (from Sports Direct) are to buy half a size bigger than your normal size, as they seemed to have cut back on size in the last year or so. For more than 6 years, I always have a 7 trainer but have started to buy a 7.5.

Yikes.  A friend broke his arm that way.  I put YakTraks on my boots for walking on ice or lumpy, slippery snow.  I've never tried them for wet leaves.  A fall with an abundant crop of acorns is another hazard, those things are like ball bearings underfoot.

Unless there's a good amount of snow I just wear my day hiking boots.  They are lightweight compared to a boot you'd use for hiking days at a time over rough, rocky ground.  ONe of the biggest boons of them is they fit close to my feet so I'm not sliding around inside the boots while the boot itself is sliding around on the ground.  Wellies don't really have much fit to them, especially for my narrow feet.

The best thing though is just be extra careful on wet leaves.  A walking pole might provide more stability.  When it's slippery underfoot don't be proud, slow down, be careful and watch your footing.   You aren't going to find a boot that will prevent one layer of wet leaves from sliding on the under layer, or the mud under the leaves.
