Hum. As mine are not insured I suppose it matters not, but what I would say is after I asked for a referral to the BVA Eye specialist down here where I live, I saw him and was charged a significant sum for about 20 minutes consultation, most of that being taken up by going through his history which he must have already known from the information that had clearly been sent to him. I came away with a tube of eye drops and a 'see how he does on this' and see me again in X-number of weeks. No thanks. Mind you seeing that the super-vet must charge, I suppose paying £200 and then the rest being picked up by insurance wouldn't be so bad, for major surgery.
What is always the case is Insurance Companies are not in the business for you! We have always had numbers so insurance hasn't been feasible, but now down to just 2, I did look into taking out insurance but didn't anticipate buying the Companies!!! I guess we were lucky in having vets who if we hit a bad patch, allowed us to stage pay.
