Hi:
My Lhasa Apso had 8 pups, one died shorlty after birth. They were born at 53 days (I recorded the breeding date). The have baggy skin(no fat) and look slow and weak. I put a light on them tonight as they seem cold even with mom. What is the optimum temp. to get the kennel? Should I automatically feed supplement formula? Or wait to see how they are doing? What ar ethe chances of this liter surviving?
Thanks for your help,
Kath

Temp in whelping box 1-4 days 80-85 degrees, 5-10 days 75-80 degrees, 10 days onwards about 70 degrees. This is what I do and haven't lost full term pupies to cold.I regulate it by gradually raising the heat lamp and popping a thermometer in an empty bed. In good weather in the summer I just use a heating pad, but I find its not enough for newborns this time of year. Good luck.

As they have been born so early it may be best to start to get as much into them as possible so feed them at least twice a day but returning them to mum. Get the temperature up as soon as possible as newborns can loose heat very very quickly.
Good luck
