I'm expecting a litter (my girl's on day 54). My question is about worming the pups. The vet's told me the two wormers they use are Drontal and Panacur. I'd just like to know which people think is the safest?
My bitch was wormed the day before her season started (accidentally - I didn't expect her to come in for another month), and I didn't worm her during pregnancy.
Pays your money and takes your chances. Pups will need doing early as bitch wasn't wormed in whelp so the encysted larva activated in later pregnancy will have passed onto pups and they will have a worm burden and need worming before 3 weeks.
I have always used panacur and been very pleased but I also follow the panacur regime in pregnancy. Inevitably as has been said with no wormer in pregnancy there are likely to be worms in the pups. Good luck as worms are a very nasty thing to have in pups. I would probably start at 2 weeks in your situation for sure. Make sure Mum s wormed as well.
I always used Sherleys Worm syrup with our baby puppies. Dosing them from 2 weeks, and every 2 weeks up to the time they go home. This doesn't hit all worms however.
I use either Panacur or Drontal for my adults ( mum).
