When we brought our first 'boy' puppy  home in October this did cross my mind! So far as we have a real tree each year he has behaved and not christened the tree! It is kept in our conservatory so it we can close the door of an evening. In fact our cats as kittens brought the tree down one year! I'm hoping this year as we decorate it whilst his out being walked he will ignore it again!
Your pink tree sounds fab!

Could you put a puppy play pen around the tree to keep the dog far enough away from it?
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 05.11.15 19:12 UTC
he jumps everything dagan broke lot of gates and pens
- By saxonjus Date 05.11.15 19:12 UTC

Yep I put a puppy pen around my tree (which won't go up until 23rd of Dec), use a fibre optic tree to avoid having to have lights, and decorate it with old dog show rosettes instead of ornaments LOL, then it doesn't matter if they get chewed. Love it and it works fine for me.
- By Hethspaw [gb] Date 05.11.15 19:13 UTC Upvotes 1
cats have sat under the tree

Hmm, maybe you could put a shower curtain over that area just in case.
.
- By suejaw Date 05.11.15 19:22 UTC
Move it higher out of the way - smaller tree or in my case with a puppy i won't be putting one up
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 05.11.15 19:36 UTC
old rossets are good idea.i have bin bags full of horse showing rossets
my tree 6ft when i put it on table the top is bent over
i have tried putting dagan in dog cage but he panicks and barks non stop
he has lot of issues he is knicknamed problem child and few others i can not repet on her
the other two pointers do.not bother the cats sit under and watch lights
i have told him off.thrown things at him and make noises to distraced him
mibby i should not of got tree but it was my treat to my self due to hell of 2years due to bad health and nasty divorce
- By suejaw Date 05.11.15 19:51 UTC Upvotes 1
If it's causing your dog that many problems I wouldn't have it up or put it in a room he can't go. As for throwing things at him, are you serious???
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 05.11.15 20:12 UTC
i lost my temper throw shoe at him i now i should not of done it as it did not help matters
dagan had 5 homes before i got him he was only 1yr when i got him.he got sever separtion anxity if i leave room.for bit or go out he pees and poos
he barks if any one passes house it does not help that neighbour across road throws bricks and eggs at window s and threatens to kill me
if were out walk if man passes me dagan goes mentle its shame as he lovely boy but lot work he has been on meditcon to try and help him
ill put tree up but if he pees ill remove tree
i have to trie my curtions up when i go out he has eaten few curtians in past when i go out

I wouldn't put the tree up if he's piddling on it!

I certainly don't think throwing things at him, shouting or putting him in a crate is the answer!

Besides....it surely won't be any good if he pee'd on it all last Christmas, it'll stink to high heaven!!
- By Cava14Una Date 05.11.15 22:21 UTC
I love Christmas and all the decorations but I have had to adapt what I put up over the years to fit in with the animals I have. It's been quite fun working out what I can have and Blu-Tac is great. Haven't had a tree of any size since cats came as it just wasn't worth the hassle
- By Lacy Date 05.11.15 22:54 UTC
Christmas tree has been up off the floor for years along with any presents. Used to find one of our dogs going slowly round & round the tree in a hypnotic state, which someone on the forum told me is called 'trancing'.

hypnotic state, which someone on the forum told me is called 'trancing'.

Ah yes trancing, thats also known when humans hit puberty, all their xmas's come at once, so to speak:twisted:

Never heard of tracing!  I make sure no chocolate decorations go on tree! The rubber duck in tree I make sure secure otherwise he would run off with it. Yes last 21 years I've had a small rubber duck nestled at towards top of tree! Long story!
The cats swing the lower branch decorations.
We buy a fresh tree every year love the smell and buy a non drop (so expensive too) variety. The small optic tree his fascinated with as it changes colour!
Do you all keep tree up til 12th night!
- By biffsmum [gb] Date 06.11.15 09:39 UTC
I think you're just going to have to resign yourself that you can't have this tree on the floor. Christmas is supposed to be a nice time of the year, it's too short to spend time worrying about the tree getting peed up!! I'd love a 6-7 ft tree, it will never happen as I have dogs who I know will cock their legs, I love them more than any old Christmas tree so again this year I'll have a beautifully decorated tree sat on my coffee table, out of harms way.
- By biffsmum [gb] Date 06.11.15 09:43 UTC Edited 06.11.15 09:49 UTC
We take bets on how long the tree will last before the Sphynx cats knock it over. Never made it to 12th night, I get sick of the mess, Bah Humbug!!
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 06.11.15 10:07 UTC

- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 06.11.15 11:07 UTC
Ours have never peed up it, but we were worried about whether they would, and we have a naughty girl now who would probably chew the ornaments. So we've had a 4 foot high tree for many years now which sits up on the hall table and is out of reach. :-)
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 06.11.15 13:04 UTC
in a way i should of got small tree but fell in love with 6ft pencil pink tree

Horrible cross breed? Why don't you work on his training for why he is peeing? With the comments you've made about him recently I wonder why you even have him? Doesn't sound like you think much of your dog :-(
- By saxonjus Date 06.11.15 13:23 UTC
I wish you lots of luck  doing up your house. Would your cross breed be happy in kitchen with stair gate on? May save a puddle in another room? I used to record myself reading a book and play to my youngest son when he used to wake up at odd hours and needed reassurance. Maybe a listening to your voice in kitchen as you do housework may help?

I can't believe folk are thinking about Christmas already. It'll be at least another five weeks before I give it any thought! Proper little ray of sunshine me!  :red:

Dogs are very good at picking up on their owner's moods. Do you think he is stressed because you are? I've found since realising that 'what I need' is more important than 'what I want' I'm a lot happier. Rome wasn't built in a day..
- By groveclydpoint [gb] Date 06.11.15 13:57 UTC
i have thought about that as things are nitemare her between nasty divorce.nighbour issues and my health not good

if cross bred hers or sees neighbour i am having issues with he barks pees he did use to go round in circles but thats stop
- By lunamoona [gb] Date 06.11.15 14:15 UTC
You sound very stressed right now.  I'm sure your dog is picking up on this and the resulting anxiety will cause his behaviour to be affected. You need to decide if you really want this dog in your life as neither of you sound very happy.

Of course it's annoying when pets have problems, my Chow has chewed all my doors and paces and whines all night, my Doberman has incontinence and floods the floors and all the dog beds. I had to stop the medication to help her as it made her smell on heat to my entire Chow and male pug so they were marking all round the house. My cat throws up on my bed and one night even peed on my head in the middle of the night.

I love all my animals unconditionally, after all there are valid reasons for their problems whether it's anxiety, old age or stress.

I'm guessing your dog is very stressed, which can cause UTI's and also inappropriate urination. I hope you have taken a sample to the vet to rule this out. If you are unable to love your dog the way he is or are unwilling to try different things to help him (DAP, belly band) and only see years of conflict ahead it would be kinder to PTS.

Not feeling well can make it harder to cope and lead to depression so please make sure you are doing everything you can to be as healthy as possible. I have health issues too and even little things like cutting out sugar can really help my energy levels.

I hope you can find a way forward through this.

- By MamaBas [gb] Date 06.11.15 17:52 UTC
Smaller tree up on a table?    As we did one year with puppies around - ex-pen open and put around the tree (not pretty, but needs must).
- By Jan bending Date 06.11.15 19:00 UTC
I won't be thinking about Xmas for a few weeks yet but I can tell you that our living room carpet bears the marks of several such events.  The Xmas tree is a tree to our boys and as such they do what comes naturally. This with boys who never territory mark/pee in the house, even when girls are in season. Last year I moved the tree into a room not often used by the family. There was no fun in that. So this year, tree will be back in living room . I'll be placing  replaceable sheets of cardboard around the tree base. Happy days !
- By Jan bending Date 06.11.15 19:04 UTC
Forgot to mention that we always have a real tree. More attractive to my boys I guess !
