Just wanted to say that my Felicia had 5 beautiful puppies last night, two males and three females. On Halloween! Unfortunately, it involved a Ceasar, which I always find disappointing and upsetting. I do so love a normal birth, and of course I wished it for Felicia. It was her third litter. We had waited 14 hours for the expelling contractions to set in, and they had not done so. Felicia was expecting them - she knew it was time - as she would scrabble around in the birthing bed, turn around a couple of times, and then obviously await a series of contractions to commence... but they didn't. So I was faced with the dilemma of "how long do I wait"? All the advice (often contradictory) from all the books and all the vets and all the other breeders and all my experience was, well, confusing and disquieting, to say the least, but a little voice somewhere (as well as Felicia herself) told me to go to the vet and have him check the heart frequencies of the puppies before contemplating waiting the entire night for the birth, which was obviously delayed in any case. So off we went (only 10 minutes by car) on a dark Halloween night, and indeed: the heart frequencies were anything but ideal. I trust my vet and told him I would go with his decision. After waiting a bit and checking further, he decided that one of the puppies was becoming truly endangered, and we did the C-section. Mum and pups doing well this morning, I'm flat out after the night on the sofa, but grateful to that little voice that told me "GO!" as well as to a good vet.
