I have just had my bitch scanned on day 28 post mating and have been asked to take her back next week as the scan was "inconclusive" had anyone else had this experience?

Yes only to find no pups.

Had a scan at 30 days and saw small pups, was told it was a bit early and to take back the next week just in case they were in the process of being reabsorbed, saw pups and all was ok.

Had a scan on a different bitch at around 28 days and there were no pups, took her back for another scan a week later and still no pups.

I concluded if there are pups they will show even if tiny at 28 days.

I admit to a wry smile over the subject title here!   Fact is scans only tell you, or should, the situation at the time of the scan.  It's not a guarantee by any means.   And even if I bothered and was told no puppies, I'd still be waiting by the due date just in case!!!   Much as by 7 weeks, you'd see the puppies moving around unless mum is being sneaky and hiding a small number of puppies up under her ribcage

Acknowledging that, as I've been told, people do have a need to know for ongoing plans.   Maybe I was fortunate in not needing that - we didn't do puppies unless we could clear our slate, successful or not in the end.

Yes, i had a scan where the vet thought she might see one but asked me to come back in a week. My girl ended up being pregnant with 2 perfect little pups.

Yes, negative scan at 28 days and three pups born at 60 days!
