My bitch (16kg)  is now 26 days post mating (just one mating) what signs of pregnancy have you  all experienced early on, if any? Physically I have noticed  a mucas discharge at around days 19 - 21 which has now subsided, her teats are a little more flushed and her vulva remains slightly larger/softer than usual, Behavior wise her nose is a little keener for food than usual (but no more being fed) and she now sleeps on my bed instead on under it. I am fairly sure she is in whelp but can all these signs be a red herring?

The signs sound encouraging, but they are also easy to imagine as different from a season when perhaps she wasn't mated and you didn't study her as closely.

At this early stage a scan will be able to tell you in a couple of days if you are unsure.

Very true we never look for "signs" when we don't mate them ;)
