we recently became the proud owners of a beautiful newfi!!! which we later discovered had severe hip dysplacia by the age of 3-4 months!!it has been suggested to us that this could be due to interbreeding and would like to know if this is correct. After examining her papers thoroughly we have become aware of many similarities between the sire and dam's parents most who come from one line for instance her parents were brother and sister. This interbreeding went on for some generations and we would like to locate the rest of the litter to see if they have had as many difficulties with their dogs as we have had with our pup!!!we have been to many specialists and all agree that it is not common to have such a severe case of displacia in such a young dog this has led them to believe that there has been some fowl play! we would be very gratful if someone could help us to locate any of the other litter or her grandparents so that we can find a way to stop this from happening again. our baby has brought us much joy!!yet we dont believe any living thing should have to suffer so much and live on pain killers to have a good life. thank you very much for your time.

yours truly raquel and helen.

Hi
You must be absolutely devastated, I am sooooo sorry. This is awful, I can't help you with tracking down the litter mates , maybe someone in Newfi s will, just wanted to say how sorry I am.
Many of us on here are so sick of this happening with pups and it's down to irresponsible breeders most of the time. And people wonder why we get so angry.
Please become members and post to keep us updated.

I'm sorry about your pup, I don't know if this helps at all http://www.newfdb.com/epeds/Fnewfs.htm if you scroll down to your dogs affix there are loads of pedigrees with hip scores so you might be able trace back the problem. Im not too sure but I think you can check the names in the KC Breed Record Suppliment, maybe someone else on here knows for sure.

Good luck

Contact the breeder without delay. They need to know what has happened so the mating isnt repeated. Dont lose your cool, they may be as devastated as you. Before buying ANY puppy you should always check that hip scoring or breed relevant health testing has been carried out, and in Newfies this should be hearts testing, OCD, eye testing(I think) and most definately hip scoring! Contact the breed club too with a vet report and a copy of the pedigree. In dog breeding as in so much of life, to know is to be empowered!

Unfortunately hipscoring is not an exact science. You can purchase a puppy from several generations of very low scored parents and still end up with a high scoring puppy. Low scored parents are not a guarantee. Sorry about your puppy and I hope you can trace the breeder.
