Hi guys, have been recommended a brilliant scanner and he is in my area when my bitch is on day 27. The scanner asks that bitches be at least 28 days. My bitch missed last time so I progesterone tested so if in whelp should be 27 days. I'll have to wait a week for scanner to be in my area again. Should I go for day 27 or wait another week. What are your thoughts and experiencances on day 27 ultrasounds?

My vet scans between day 26-28 and we see great detail including beating hearts.
We can only estimate when sperm met egg so day 27 is a fair compromise.

I like to go at around 30 days, hoping for a 100% confirmation of pregnancy.  This without having done the progesterone test, however, and therefore I can't be certain of the date of ovulation.  That's why I don't want to do the ultrasound too early.  Referring to your question, I would not wait another whole week, however, as you'd be at day 34, which seems to me a bit long.  If you are sure about the date of ovulation, I should think you would be able to confirm pregnancy on day 27, especially with a brilliant scanner performing the examination.

You should be able to see something by day 27, however be prepared to scan again at the next opportunity as it might be difficult to see detail, especially if your bitch took later than predicted.

Thanks guys for your help and advice. I am going to scan on day 27 and fingers crossed the scan will confirm if we have anything going on. Desperate to know either way especially after her missing last time. Thanks again for your help.

Years ago a vet I used had a specialist in scanning come to the practice and he happily scanned at 25 days and confirmed my very skinny (picky eater) bitch in whelp with he predicted an average size litter, she had 9, my biggest litter yet (registration stats show the breed average a little under 6).
