Hi guys my girl had her heat a while ago and my boy got out to her I thought I noticed and put a stop to it before anything happened.. but in the last few weeks she has swollen and and her teats have inlarged.. she also now for the last half of the week had had a swollen vaulva and its loosing some elasticity. . We thought it was a pahantom pregnancy as she isnt to big and when we count the dates (estimate unfortunetly) its all not adding up.. how can I tell if it is phantom or real? I dont want it to be real and not be there for when she gives birth just incase something goes wrong.. when I called the vets he advised me to wait and see for a few more weeks ( more dog has extreme fear of the vets and the smell like very bad and he does not want me to stress her just yet bringing her in just incase she is) pleassse help thankyou

The best way to find out is to get her scanned from around 27 days. If you catch the pregnancy early enough you can terminate the pregnancy not sure the name of the method I'm sure someone will let you no that

I dont have a problem if she is pregnant than we just wait for puppies.. but im having trouble telling if she is or its phantom? And with the vet not wanting me to bring her in for a few weeks I have no way to find out just yet :( just last time I noticed her vaulva swelling she was almost due to have them .. its really thrown me

How long ago was she in season?

You need to get her scanned

You should be able to see the puppies moving around by week 7 - although if she's built like a Basset with a wide ribcage and only a small litter, you may not - and ditto if she has a load and not much room for them to move around.

You'll know if it's a false pregnancy if nothing arrives by the due date (roughly 62 - 63 days from the first mating) at which point you should get her x-rayed to make sure.   Scanning only confirms or not, a pregnancy at the time of the scan.

Always best to know for certain so you can be prepared. I have just whelped a bitch for a friend who had to go into hospital. I'd have sworn she wasn't pregnant as you could not tell at all, but she had been scanned so I knew. One single pup arrived day 65 -during a few minutes I went into the kitchen! Left the room, nothing, came back, there it was. Thank goodness the bitch was kept in a safe place with everything prepared!

But - but - but ....  what if the scan said yes and the due date came and went and zip.   It can happen.  And, for the benefit of the OP because I've said all this before even if you get an 'empty' answer to a scan, wouldn't you still be watching, and hoping - I know I would.

July.. but my son ripped my calander where I wrote the dates and the date that my male got out to her.. maybe ill try calling another vet today

So I had a vet come to my house to look at her (due to her extreme fear of the vets.. he felt around and has still left me with no answers he said he could not tell for sure at this stage as she may be and have them held up in her rib cage.. my dog was in immense fear of the vet ( he said most likely the smell on him from the vets) and has also reccomended waiting a little longer and to just keep close eye on her for now he will be calling in a few more days to check whats happening and go from there.. I hate not knowing if its real or fake.. cannot wait until I can have her desexed and she never has to do this again.. thankyou everyone

I ok guys I just noticed stringy clearly mucusy type stuff coming out of my girls privates is that likely to happen if it is phantom? Will be getting a call back iff the vet the came today hopefully later tonight?? Thankyou

In your position (and I'm being truthful here) I would take my girl to the vet and leave her in the car while you fetch the vet out to her.  And I would go for the mis-mate drug.  I had a bitch mated and it was not planned, and I didn't want her to have pups.  I have never regretted it.  I went back 2 days later for the second jab and had her spayed before her next season was due.

Are there no mobile scanners working in your area that could come to your house? If she was in season in July then pups could be due any time from now.
