Does anyone have experience of leasing a bitch registered and owned in Europe, but having the bitch here and registering the litter here in the UK under your own affix?  What did you need to do as far as registration, is there somewhere on the KC site that provides info for something like this.  I have searched, but you all know what the KC website is like.

Any information would be helpful.  If you're not happy posting publicly please PM me if you can.  Just looking at what's involved well in advance of the potential opportunity before deciding if it's something I can reasonably consider.  I just can't find a lot of info out there, yet I know it's not uncommon.

As regulations within the KC have probably changed since the time I was active, I'd phone them and ask.   I think, and it's only think, you'd have to get her imported in the normal way (all the requirements for her to come straight in via Pet Passport and with an Export Certificate from the KC of her country of birth) and to register the puppies using your affix etc., have her transferred into your name, unless her owner happens to be a co-owner of your affix.  She'd then have to be transferred back into the name of the European 'owner' when she goes back to Europe.  

There might be an 'easier' way round all this, like taking your intended mate over to her in Europe so she can be bred and whelp this litter over there (in familiar surroundings!), and then you go pick the puppy you want and bring it back into the UK?

Thanks, we did this the opposite way last time, and took our bitch there to be bred to their male, before the regulations changed so that dogs could come in 21 days after rabies vaccs, ins taped of 6 months after the test. 

We could still import a bitch puppy from the breeder at some point and that's always been the plan when the right mating/litter/bitch comes along, but recently this came up in conversation (lots of reasons behind it) so thought I'd look into what might be involved before we talked more seriously.  It may come to nothing, for any number of reasons, but I was curious of people's experiences. 

I will ring the KC for definite answers if we get to a more serious level of talk, but hoped to be armed with a little more experienced info before doing so.

I can't see why you would not be able to do a Loan of bitch agreement/lease agreement, the owner may be unwilling to transfer ownership, as you never know.

I have bred a bitch (though a UK one) using a Loan of Bitch form, which they no longer seem to have to download, so you need to ask KC for it and can ask what to do with it being an overseas bitch.

Usually if your using an overseas stud for example (I've done it more than once) you need a certified pedigree. 

These days you may be able to apply for an ATC number to get the pedigree details into KC records.

Just to add - for goodness sake make sure you get absolutely every contingency you can imagine down in writing.     Some years back someone in Europe had my bitch on a breeding contract which they never adhered to.    I never had the bitch back, nor my choice of pup - long story, which ended in a very unsatisfactory court case in a foreign country.    Just be careful!
