I'm having trouble finding pet insurance for my presa canario cross - all the companies I've tried have this breed in their 'excluded' list.  Is it possible to get insurance from anywhere?

Have you tried Healthy Pets Theresa?  http://www.healthy-pets.co.uk/  Don't know if they will cover your dog but I've found them very helpful.

Presa Canario information

The presa canario is not a recognised breed in this country, not registered with the kennel club anyway, so it would be very hard to say definately what was in your dogs make up.  To be frank the breeder could be telling you anything.
On that basis I see no reason why you are bothering to declare anything more than a cross breed when applying for quotes.

Thanks Annie - I do now have insurance cover - thanks for your help

the presa canario is a spanish mastiff; my 'Roxy' is half presa canario - the other half is a cross english mastiff/staff.  I'm sorry, I don't know how to attach a photo!

That's OK, I have seen pictures of the breed :-) and I know they are recognised elsewhere but there is no verifiable predigree registry for them in the UK and yours is a cross anyway so I would be looking for the better rates that crossbreeds seem to attract from insurance companies :-)

Hi there, Can you please, please tell me what insurance you got! i am having trouble, I know Petplan do it but you have to pay the Vet bill first and then claim money back! I want an insurer with Excess. Please advice. Really appreciate it! Thaks Rachel and puppy Lucy :)

All insurance have an excess, however if you get on well with your vet then you can ask Pet Plan to pay your vet directly. Most vets trust PP but may not allow direct payment from some other companies as they know that PP will pay out quickly.

There is a thread going on the 'General' page you may find interesting
