Morning,
Can anyone advise me what happens when a judge reports a dog to the KC for aggression in the ring?

Many thanks,

Jeff.

Thankfully I've never had one actually reported - much as to my horror, I had one who wasn't good in the ring at a local Fun Match.   She was just not placed!!   And needless to say that was it for her show career!!   So as far as what steps the KC might take, I think maybe you should talk to them?   I'm not sure, depending on what caused this to happen, I'd bother to carry on showing this dog - and if this IS true aggression, certainly not breed from it.   Could be something about this particular judge spooked him/her?  But I'd suggest it would have to be pretty serious for the judge to actually make a report about this dog.

ps   I have had some 'known' judges be rough with my hounds in the ring - I pretty soon realised who of the judges in my breed did this, and they went into my little black book - fast.

Thanks MamaBas - thankfully this is a general enquiry - not personal!

Yes. The owner will get a letter about a month later, stating the dog is under a temporary ban from all KC licensed events until the matter has been investigated. Another month or two later they will send out another letter with a form to be filled in by any witnesses the owner hopefully has lined up. At the same time they will receive a copy of the official indent report from the show and a statement from the judge. They owner is given 14 days to send in any evidence. It can then take several months before the incident is discussed at a meeting. A month or so after that the owner will get a letter either saying the dog has been let off, or the owner has been fined, or the dog has been banned for life. It's a very long process. With one dog I know of the entire process took almost a year.
