Hi I am doing my bitche's xrays for hips to night, but her and my male tied this afternoon. will the xray kill off the sperm from their tie today??

What if the hip results come back bad, and she is pregnant?? :roll:

Well I suppose there's plenty of time for an Alizin injection :red: if results are poor, but it really is putting the cart before the horse.

ya i know, not good timing. someone else let them out not me. :( Other dogs in her litter have had great hip xrays. so Im not really worried about that. just wonder if the xray will harm the sperm. i was waiting to breed them tonight.

but surely you won't have the results from the scoring for some time as they need to be sent off for expert grading.

the vet I go to is one the best one around. I am just doing in house one today not OFA. AGAIN, will the x ray kill the sperm???

Why not ask this expert Vet you are using ? Having xrays whilst pregnant is not the norm for humans, but I cannot see how the radiation would kill the sperm or eggs

Shouldn't you gave had the bitch xrayed for hips & elbows BEFORE she came in season ???

All my pedigree dogs are from health tested parents, who were tested well BEFORE they were bred from

Any look at the UK KC's Mate Select tool will show you whole litters of dogs where most of them have good x-rays and then one or two have very bad hips.  Other dogs having good hips is no indication she will have.

If I were a puppy buyer, especially of a GSD, I'd be looking for OFA or BVA certified hip score, not just a random vet looking at an x-ray!

It takes about 6 wks for the results to come back from the BVA panel in the UK...

I would get then done, if the results are poor you can end the pregnancy with Alizin and if the X-rays cause issues and stop the pregnancy then as you have both you can try again the next time around

Unlikely to KILL sperm but the eggs and sperm DNA will be irradiated and may cause mutations.
Ask your vet...if he she is the best then you're likely to get good accurate advice.

I'd have to agree with this suggestion (talk to your vet).   I honestly don't understand what's going on here ..... why, given she's already been mated, would you suddenly decide to do some testing?   And what about the sire's status?

Talk about cart before horse.

I'd only x-ray at the end of a pregnancy, if it was necessary to confirm the size of the puppies (re a natural whelping or C.Section) or to confirm the bitch is empty (no puppies appearing)
