Thank you for your help Butler 1.  I contacted them and they no longer do ringcraft classes. It looks like I am going to have to travel some distance to find a class unless anyone else knows of classes in Suffolk?

I wonder where you are, I am in Stanton (½ way between Bury & Diss)  I guess you are further east in the county
The links above - petdog is in Stonham Barns and the other (website is a bit vague) is Ipswich area so either may be a bit closer to you.

The one at Stonham Barns is the only one I know of off the top of my head.

My friend who has 5 Italian spinone moved from Birmingham to Halesworth,I've been to visit her and I must say Suffolk is a beautiful place. Extremely different to Birmingham where her whole family has been born/raised but she adores it there. She said that she doesn't miss Birmingham itself but misses the people, well I sure do miss her and the dogs, phone calls just aren't the same:sad:

When living back 'up East', we went to one that was basically an Obedience Class, just outside Saffron Walden.   However, in the absence of a 'ringcraft class' locally, other than in Newmarket which I didn't really want to travel to, we went to the Ob classes and were allowed to stack at appropriate points in the classes, and the lady doing the classes, 'went over' our hounds so they got used to that.   It was really almost as good as a full ringcraft class as it still gave a similar atmosphere for puppies.   If you can't find a local Ringcraft Class, I'd not rule out doing the same - going to an Obedience class and getting them to allow you to stack etc.

Love Suffolk to bits and would like to move there, but hubby prefers where we are. We have a static caravan on the the cliffs at Dunwich on the coast in a beautiful area surrounded by heather heathland, great for dog walking - the beach or the heath, which one shall we do today. Go there as often as possible.

Currently we are further up the east coast in Northumberland near Craster with the wind rocking the motorhome and the rain battering on the windows. Happy days.

Suffolk is a great place to live and very dog friendly - but we are trying to keep it a secret or everyone will want to move here :lol:

MamaBas - that is a good suggestion and one worth remembering for future use.

My Obedience class lets me do that, I know the organiser well, in fact she used to show a bitch I had back at 7 months and she gave her a home.

I don't have them sit during heelwork but have them stand, and do stands instead of sit stays, and use steady for looser heelwork appropriate to moving a pup at show speed.

Down stays are useful, as are recalls, for whatever discipline.

Did quite well at Obedience often running off against her collie kennel mate at the local Exemption shows top class.

Yes, I've done that at puppy obedience classes, the trainers don't generally mind your saying that you're not training a heelwork sit for the moment. And yes Suffolk is lovely! I felt very uprooted when we first moved here, and it can be a bit of a pain when it takes so long to get anywhere else from it, but it's a lovely part of England. I do still miss my Enfield dog class, but that's about all I miss about north London! :-)
