Don't the KC get their money easy! A good friend has gifted me her affix, or Kennel name depending how old you are. This cost £25 for the transfer plus £20 for the annual upkeep even though she had just paid this amount in June to keep it going.
I have a new puppy and thought I would wait to register him until the affix transfer had gone through, wrong, I have to transfer him to my ownership first, £23, I opted for breed supplement, then I have to pay an additional £20 to put my affix onto his name.
The breeder will have already forked out to register the litter so the one puppy will have made them well over £100 before I am finished.
I understand there are overheads to providing a service like this but this just seems silly money for nothing more that a few bits of paper and a booklet.

I got a puppy from Northern Ireland to show, she had an Irish kennel club reg, as she is IKC reg she is seen as an import so it was 20 euro to change into my name 30 euro for a pedigree then £50 to get her Uk reg which they gave you another pedigree which was wrong.Add to that it says on her uk reg imported from northern ireland.how can you be imported from the Uk. Yes they like your money

Now that does defeat me!   Yes, we went through all that when taking our hounds and importing, to Canada from the UK and then again when we came back .... including bringing a UK-bred and registered hound back into the UK with us .... he was then a 're-import'!!   Yes I guess it's all about 'over-heads'.

I'd be seriously asking questions about 'importing' from another UK country even if there is paperwork involved - and the dog was registered with the IKC, and not the UK KC which is why presumably you were charged.   If the dog came from somebody living in N.Ireland, I wonder why he was registered with the IKC unless he originally came from Ireland, not N.Ireland.

They do live in N.Ireland, but 99% of the shows are held under IKC rules( even in n.ireland). So they just IKC register them which is best for them as they only need to register them once, just so happens not me :red: the IKC paper work is much nicer too.

Tell me about it I was dead impressed with the nice registration forms when I registered two of mien in order to show in Ireland.

Of course if a dog isn't registered with the KC (UK) in the first place then it is imported and payment for paperwork required, as of course they won't have any of the dogs details on their database.

In the same way when I have used an overseas stud for example I have to pay to have the studs details added to UK records,a nd provide paperwork,  in addition to the registration fees for the litter.

Ahh but JP would think of 'travelling to a stud' as having to go the other side of town instead of the dog up the road
