Hi all,

After a few misses I have a bitch confirmed in whelp. I did not progesterone test or swab as I haven't had much luck with these in the past, just covered on days 12 and 14. So first cover was on 1st August and second on 3rd August, she is 33 days or thereabouts. I had a scan done 6 days ago on day 27, the vet could see one pup, possibly two but as so small hard to tell of course so I am taking her back for a rescan tomorrow.

My only slight concern is about her discharge. At the time of first mating, her discharge had faded to the classic pink to yellow. When she returned, her discharge became bloody again and she continued her season, which I wasn't overly concerned about it. This has gradually decreased so that now she is producing a small amount of mucousy discharge with a brownish tinge to it. It's only noticable because I am studying her discharge, as you do.

I had hoped this discharge would have stopped by now. However nothing untoward was seen at the scan last week. The bitch is fine in herself, eating and drinking normally, temperature 38.5. The discharge is mucousy and not pus - like and there isn't much of a smell to it.

My question is, would you worry about this discharge, and rush to vets, or just mention to the vet tomorrow?

Would not worry if it is odourless and just creamy beige.

Thanks brainless :)

I mentioned to the vet today and he told me not to worry unless she goes off her food and becomes dull, and a bit of odd discharge is just part of pregnancy. Having said that, she has had no discharge tody at all.

More good news from the scan, she isn't carrying a singleton, there's at least two but he understandably wouldn't give me a head count, which I don't mind because they're never right anyway.

I'm so thrilled..i was convincing myself the first vet was wrong and there wasn't even one...she has had no symptoms whatsoever!

Just thought I'd update this for the benefit of anyone searching for this topic. My bitches discharge has now become clear and copious. Her teats have rapidly become very dark pink and her stomach is swelling every day. This has all happened really quickly after her second scan. Previously on this board I've said if teats aren't pink by 21 days I'd probably discount a pregnancy but shows how much I know! And also shows how different pregnancies are even within bitches of the same breed.

Copious?   Yoiks.   This I'd need to have checked.

Not gushing like a tap MamaBas  Just that she's now leaving little snail trails everywhere she goes, whereas with the darker stuff I only found I because I was wiping and looking for it :red:
