Can you get a kennel sound proofed and if so how do i go about it and what is the cost etc ? Im asking for my sister, she doesnt keep her dogs in the kennels, only when she has family gatherings etc but they bark a lot when in there.

I would imagine that they bark when they are in there as they are somewhere they are not used to. I would try making the kennel a good place to be.As with crate training you can't just put them in there and expect them to like it if they are usually out and about with the family.

Have a look at some of the crate training games and see how they could be adapted for kennel use.

I'm not sure what you mean by "kennel."  A large room?  Or a small one dog per thing  sometimes called a kennel or a crate?  I really can't see how soundproofing can be done without cutting off, or at least greatly restricting, air flow.  Maybe that would be ok in the large room scenario, though it might get hot and stinky in there.  But, I think I want to hear in case something goes wrong.  Also agree with the above, the dogs would best be conditionned to being used to some alone time

I'd assume Kennel would be outside accomodations, if soundproofing is needed.

I think this is more a question of training the dogs to be happy to be left for a while.   Surely any 'soundproofing' is going to restrict air-flow, to be anything like effective?

You ever heard about the "sounds blankets"? - came across those at http://www.vocalboothtogo.com/vocal-booth-sound-proofing-acoustic-room-treatment-articles/37-miscellaneous/117-sound-reduction-in-dog-kennels Are they that good?

I'll have to look into those for my wicked girl - I am trying many different things and talking to behaviourists and we hope to make her happier to be left for short periods, such as when I need to show another dog or pop to the loo, but it's a long process!

Have a look at Marlena DeMartini-Price's book 'Treating Separation Anxiety'.  I got it last year when I was having mega troubles with my guys, mainly Linc, barking his backside off every moment I was gone!

Fast forward to now and I can leave everyone happily.  It's aimed mainly at trainers but the steps are easy to follow and very thorough.  Straight forward stuff.
