Hi, I have a 5 month old pug and he has demodex mites, it started on his hind legs and has now spread into his stomach and head, we have already had advocate from the vets but it hasn't worked and now we are trying aludex wash, I just want to know other people's experiences of it? How long does it take to go?

My little Patterdale had Parvo when she was 6 weeks old, but being a tough little cookie she survived but she was so run down she then had demodex. We used the washes 3 times a week, diluting the alludex in a washing up bowl stood in the bath. She was small enough to put into the the bowl. I suppose it took about 6 weeks to clear her of the mites, but we gave another 2 weeks on top to make sure we got all of the little blighters. She has been clear ever since and she is now coming up to 8 years.
It is awful stuff to use and you must be very careful around the eyes, but it works and is well worth the effort.

The demodex burrow right down into the body, they are not a surface mite, so it takes a while to reach them all, for this reason sometimes a scrape will not pick up and show any mites, but it does not mean they are not there. For this reason you tend to go on an extra bit more just to make sure.

Good luck.

BTW years ago I had  GSD with the demodex and she had to be completely shaved as the aludex could not get through her thick coat, she looked like an over ready turkey. At least my Patt did not have to go through that indignity.

The spot on stuff  does not work. The wash does work but is does not happen overnight. I had 2 retrievers with this condition and it took 6 months before their coats grew back. It would have helped if my then vet had diagnosed it properly in the first place before it got so bad. My girl is now almost 11 and it never reoccurred, we did lose the other girl a couple of years ago but nothing to do with Demedex. I used to give the ecinatia ( not sure of the spelling) from the herbal shop. It helps the immune system and the excess mites are present due to a suppressed immune system. My girls were both spayed at 1 year old. Please do not use you boy fro breeding.

How often did you apply the Advocate and the Aludex?

Did not use advocate just the insecticidel baths once a week. Bathed first in a degreasing shampoo so the medication got to the skin easier. Weekly visits to the vet to check the level of mites present. It took several months to get rid of the mites and then longer for the coat to grow back.
