My girl is on day 15 and after several visits to the stud starting on day 10 she has shown no signs of being ready,no flagging,no flirting and snappy too and the stud wasnt remotely interested.I shouldve had her blood tested right from the start but i had it done on day 12,the results on day 13 were 42 and i was told because i hadnt been to get her tested from the beginning of the season they couldnt tell if she was on her way up or down but that it was high and to go back to the stud.I know she cant be on her way down because she has been to see the stud every day since day 10 and im pretty certain she didnt ovulate early.I took her back yesterday and although stud slightly more interested he didnt attempt to mount her and her body language said she defintely still wasnt ready, tail tucked between her legs, absolutely no flagging at all,not even when i touch her tail and still snapping.Could she just be one of those dogs that ovulates late?I know not all dogs are text book day 12/13.The stud is local so we are on our way back today but any advice on this appreciated. Thanks

With my bitches I have never had a bitch mated and produce a litter who wasn't mated past 15 days.
Our litter this year the bitch was blood tested every other day from day 10 and finally ovulated day 21......then mated on day 23.
Its the blood test result thats baffled me,42 means ovulated or about to although vet did say although a high result she may be one that has a higher results around ovulation but cant be sure, could she still not quite be there with a result of of 42?

Sadly nature doesn't always play by the book ! So many people insist because the book says! 10-12 days it's then or not at all.
An experienced stud dog will tell you plain and simple if she is ready . If he says yes even if her front end is saying no well she's ready I would trust my boys over any test.
And bitch owner turn up expecting a maiden bitch to come through the front door with her tail cocked to the side. Sorry if that was your daughter you'd throttle her!
We recentLy had a bitch have a clear season and if it wasn't for our lad saying she was ready we would have missed her. Took her off to the stud dog sat in the garden with them watching her trying to eat him ( I had sent a video of the said bitch standing with her tail right over for our lad) so we sat and waited .... After about 10 or so minutes she decided that she had marked the garden had a good sniff and this boy wasn't so bad and we had a lovely natural mating with a maiden bitch.

Ah yes, but I have never, ever met a bitch who had read the book. There's your answer. And I had a problem bitch who never seemed ready and my vet said to test her on the very first day I saw any swelling at all, even with no show of blood. This bitch ovulated on day 4.
Then I had a bitch mated on day 28 and my vet said she couldn't possibly be pregnant. Of course she had to show him who knows best and she had a lovely litter to that day 28 mating. Confused? Me too!

Too many people interfere and rush things, and don't allow the dog and bitch to court. In my breed thankfully we do discreet supervision, and allow things to take as natural a course as possible and only steady a bitch, so the dog can turn, ro if the bitch finds the tie irksome
Now on day 17 blood test is now 50.2 and says ovulating but stud dog( well proven) not remotely interested, thats whats confusing because if she was the only one showing no signs but the stud was very interested it wouldnt bother me but the blood test result doesnt match up to the way they are acting.

Sometimes a dog is just not interested in the bitch regardless. Had an english setter who we knew was ready but she was not at all cooperative with chosen stud, he was also very disinterested in her - in fact he just lay down next to her ! Took her to back up stud and she was mated with in 10 mins of them meeting.
At least we knew the bitch had ovulated as we had blood tested and could take the decision this pair were not going to get it together so we could take opportunity of trying with an alternative male - she had 8 pups.
So my advice would be try another male if you have researched alternative sires.
Ive tried 2 studs and the other stud is exactly the same.

Maybe nature is trying to tell you something ? Not every bitch is right to be a mother.

That's a high result, what are they measuring in?
I had two failed attempts before my girl fell pregnant and that was then taking advice from the repro vet. She had a reading of 26 and was told to mate ASAP and that was results from a mornings test and we mated that afternoon and 2 subsequent days after just in case.
Are you sure she hasn't gone over?

50.2 Nmol would convert to 15.7ng so should be ok

So true! One of our stud dogs clearly preferred red/lemon-white bitches and didn't much care for the tricolours, even if he was one himself, and lived with them. Perhaps that was why

And I will ALWAYS go by the reaction of both partners, rather than any testing. Nature does usually know best. Testing can be an aid, but that's all.

Some dogs, especially older experienced ones, like to wait until a bitch is ripe.
The ova can't be fertilised until 48 hours after ovulation, and remain viable for about 26 - 48 hours after that.
If the bitch was being AI'd where sperm life is short it would be done
3 DAYS AFTER OVUALTION.
Is it worth getting AI done if results were 50.2 on wed?

AI is not allowed with a UK resident sire
