Morning all.
I wonder if you can give me any tips for introducing a new puppy. Finn is 2 and shortly to be castrated. He is about 15Kg and the adult of the new puppy breed is about 10Kg.
It is the sleeping arrangements I was trying to work out. Finn sleeps in the conservatory with access to the garden although I do shut him in entirely sometimes.. He has never fussed at night. i can provide a crate for the new puppy. My thoughts were a) to have the crate next to Finn all night b) to have the crate upstairs next to me and Finn downstairs......seems a bit unfair! c) to bring Finn and puppy upstairs for a couple of weeks, perhaps take both out for wee at some time in the night and then leave them downstairs. I will have 2 crates available, but one is small.
Any other tips gratefully received as I have never had a tiny puppy, 8-9wo.
Regards Louise

Have the dogs already met?  This could make a difference depending on how they relate to each other during the day.

The new puppy is only going to be 8/9 wo, so the dogs will not have met.

A new puppy to bring home and enjoy! I have never had two dogs together however we are on a list for a litter next year and our boy will be 2& 1/2 years old. I have these same questions buzzing round my head too! I did wonder if the breeder would let me introduce my boy to the puppy we pick before the grand home bringing! Neutral territory but just to introduce them! Is this a bad idea or a reasonable one? Asking all experienced on here.

Hi. I found the following link useful
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/articles/adultdognewpuppy.htm

My pup is now 6 months, my girl 9 yrs.  I sleep downstairs (don't ask ;) so no issues with where they sleep - with me.   Pup has a small crate/den within a very large crate that acts as a playpen.  I did, at first, extend this at times with wire mesh panels to give my girl a break and him lots of room to play in the day. I also got an Adaptil diffuser, don't know if it helped but it's been great   my older girl has a new lease of life, loves playing with him and keeps him in order too - she does know I'll 'protect' her from him if he gets too boisterous and I separate when feeding, especially high value bones (I raw feed)

Another decent article despite being wiki is

My girl is 21kg pup will make about 8/9 kg She is very gentle with him, though if you saw her with his head in her mouth... & the noise they make you'd think they were killing each other.

I hope you have lots of fun with them both.
