My dog has had an operation today and has a shaved front leg. Can she be shown in a few weeks when she gets the all clear or do I need to wait for the coat to grow back? She is a short coated breed. Thanks.
One leg has a small patch shaved for the anaesthetic, other leg is shaved from wrist upwards about 6 inches and all the way round. Will they over look that much skin?
I expect it won't be too obvious in a few weeks, specially as it's on the leg. My girl had a sebaceous cyst removed at the end of May and was 3rd in Open a month later - everyone said they would hardly have noticed the patch if I hadn't pointed it out, though it looked really obvious to me, right in the middle of her back!
My friend's dog had the back of his skull and the area over his hips shaved for SRMA testing, she has shown him with no notable difference in his placings to before, and it's still not grown back yet (steroid treatment).
I've shown mine with a shaved leg patch and once with a big patch shaved out of her neck. I had forgotten to ask the vet to take blood from her leg as she had a show and they brought her back out with a chunk missing on her neck. It took months to start growing back the last time. A couple judges asked about it but other didn't say anything and she was placed while she had them.
