A couple of months ago I posted about not getting the puppy I paid for.  I said everything had been solved and I had been mistaken.  Now I'm not so sure.   Before I explain why I shall tell you about what happened at the vets.  A client was there having her one year old rare dog breed bitch put to sleep.   She said it was her mistake as she hadn't viewed the puppy with the parents.  The nurse said it would have made no difference as quite often the parents aren't the true parents.  Now a couple of weeks later I booked to have dog training lessons.  A woman had a dog the same breed as mine but a couple of weeks older. We discovered the dogs had the same parents (what?).  We then swopped notes about hair colour, eye colour of our pups and the parents.  I text the breeder to ask if she had sold a pup to this woman and she text back she had.  I was surprised that she never asked how my pup was or why I wanted to know.  I have left it at that.  I've got a pup and I love her.

It all sounds very murky and I am glad your pup has you to love her. What were the circumstances surrounding the one year old being PTS?

Paperhanging. Possibly one of the bitches wasn't KC registered, or was endorsed, or had too many litters before, so the breeder registered both litters as coming from one set of parents.

Hello RozzieRetriever,  I don't know the breed of the dog but it was brown, about 18" tall with short floppy ears and smooth haired.  It had been taken to another vet with a white rash around its mouth and over its body.  The owner wasn't satisfied with the diagnosis or treatment so took it to my vet.   Straight away the vet said it was something associated with that breed and it was rife in America but no known cases were here.  It had to be put to sleep because of the excrutiating pain it was in.

Hello MsTemeraire, when I was at my vets another client asked where my pup came from and I told her. The client and vet glanced at each other.  I didn't query the glance but it spoke volumes.

Poor little b....r. Just goes to back up having any/every test you can done before breeding. No pup deserves such a short miserable life if it can be avoided.
So glad yours has you.

Vets generally know the local puppy farmers, they have to mop up the problems many produce.
I lived near one such 'breeder' and the local vets were tearing their hair out with all the sad, sick little collies coming through their doors.

So sad that at least 2 more people have swelled their coffers.

I will guess by "America" you mean the U.S. and I'm in Canada but still, I'd really like to know the breed and the ailment?  I guess the poor dog was imported?  Otherwise looks like the U.K. does now have a known case.  Any chance of you finding breed and ailment out?  Anybody else have a guess?  Poor dog.

Hello Jetstone Jewel, I could have asked at the time when the owners went through to the back room but I'm too much reserved (shy) to put myself forward. If the nurse is there on her own sometime I will try and ask.  Yes I think they meant USA.  Good question, if it was imported the parents wouldn't have been there and this wouldn't have been a UK case.

Hello tooolz, when I took my pup to the vet for it's vaccinations the first thing my she asked was the pup medically insured.  I had already insured her before I collected her even though she was supposed to come with insurance.  The problem is that other buyers cannot be warned because of slander.

If the other owner is correct on DoB and your says different you could maybe send a copy of your paperwork and the other owners paperwork to the KC, assuming the pups are KC registered, as that would have DoB plus sire and dam listed.
Query it as false paperwork/registration/pedigree.
Not slander as you are only asking for clarification on what the 'breeder' has signed as being correct.
may not help current owners but would help to stop the'breeder' doing it with future litters/owners

A bit puzzled? Did this woman have the puppy you expected to have? Maybe the breeder didn't recognise you as a previous buyer? Do all breeders if you ring say 3,4 or 6 months later ask how the pup is? Or show a lot of interest? Luckily mine does and asks how he is by text/email. I am curious if this is the "norm?" Or just lucky?
Back to the OP it does feel as if you still think you had been given the wrong puppy but love and clearly adore puppy you have! Are you going to pursue it with breeder?

It does amaze me that some breeders just don't want to know after the deal is done. I have a 11 month old pup who has had numerous issues health wise and while I have never blamed the breeder as it is all things that they would have been very unlikely to have spotted, I did get frustrated when I tried to make contact just to let them know what was going on and its like they have fallen off the face of the earth. Very strange when they had done all the usual things ie contract stating if I ever wanted to move her on they would have her back immediately. A more suspicious person may say that yes they did have their doubts about my little girl and that is why they dont want any contact but I prefer to think the best of people.
I love her to bits and would never dream of moving her on no matter what problems she may have, as I said to the vet when he said send her back for another one ' shes not a pair of shoes you know' !!
