I'm increasingly seeing little pop up individual / 2 person shelters at shows and rally trials where people can sit inside on a folding chair with their dogs with them, very nice for both hot day and wet days! Everyone I ask assures me that you can buy them online really cheaply. But when I look, all I can find are shelters about 110 cm high. I'm not particularly tall, but when I measured myself sitting in my chair I'm nearer 120 cm high, so I need something just a little higher. Any ideas?

Have you looked at ones that fishermen use? They seem to be taller

Next time you see one check if its got a makers label on it, far easier to hunt for a name :-)

Just a word of warning.. if they really are "Pop up" make sure you can put the blooming thing down again afterwards, some are a real struggle and need some brute strength. I went to get a fisherman's one and it popped up a treat but it took 6 lads, and a huge amount of hilarity and swearing (not to mention the poor bloke who got a springy metal whip across his crown jewels !!)  in Halfords to try and get it back into the bag. It was not until a Glastonbury festival regular arrived and did it in a jiffy, that it gave up and crawled back in its bag ! its a festival knack apparently !! I am so glad I had them open it as I would have taken it home and never been able to collapse it again !! I decided against it and bought a little shelter that works with folding poles and its a piece of cake to erect and dismantle.

This is a new design - not seen one in use but look good - the larger shelter would seem the better choice for added head room

Aileen never a truer word was said. I bought a large pop up tent for camping at agility shows. It is rather large and has three separate areas to it. I was really excited when it arrived via the courier and really surprised at how small it packed down - it goes in a circular bag that is about 1m in diameter and about 10cm in depth - in fact so surprised that I decide to open the zip on the bag and check it was the right tent.

A grave mistake The tent leaped out of the bag, whacking me in the face and scattering dogs in all directions. It was the right tent but I had opened it in my living room and it filled it I watched the maker's instructional video on how to fold it down and gave up after three hours of trying. I had to wait four days before one of my adult children could visit and help me to pack it away- it still took us several hours and a lot of laughter and expletives to work out how to fold it and secure it in it's bag. Until my daughter arrived to help me I had to turn it sideways in my living room and unzip the doors on it so I could walk through it to get into my hall to get to the rest of my house.

I have now learnt how to pack it away but it takes two people to bend the flexible poles into the correct position for packing - and thankfully can do it in minutes now rather than hours.

LOL, hilarious to imagine, but probably not much fun at the time. It also helps if you keep the instructions that tell you how to wrestle the darn thing into submission......

Oh dear!! Yes I will have to check I can do it as I'm not all that clever with that sort of thing. My M-I-L bought me a small tent for my birthday which did much the same thing, luckily outside on the driveway and it only took us 15 minutes to work out how to get it down again! I will check all those ideas out, many thanks.

Looking for a shelter like you on my own pop ups normally require two or three people to put it down at border union champ I saw a sportbroll,y it comes in various sizes goes up like a parasol it comes down like a big parasol the hardest thing if winding it back tight enough to fit back in to bag once done you know how tight. It goes on its side with anchor points to put pegs into guide rope attachments to anchor it against the wind central pole adjusts to the required height asking questions they bought if off amazon have since acquired one and have seen a lot around the shows since they different colours are different sizes

Yes, I've found some fishing brolly type things with sides around half of it which seems to be a possibility, just shove the brolly stick into the ground and peg down the sides.

I don't know if it will be tall enough but I got a beach tent shelter thing from morrisons for £7. It has poles but takes 5 mins to put up that's all. It's 'shower proof' and even has guy ropes incase it gets a bit windy. Might be worth a look. I use mine when I'm laying on the lawn reading as a sunshade for the odd time the sun appears.

Hmm, I don't think I want anything that needs mallets. Might have to go back to the drawing board!

My friend has 2 of those sport brolly thingies,she puts them together with a ground sheet underneath. Managed to get 2 adults,5 Italian spinones and 1 English springer spaniel underneath. They've come in REALLY usefull at dog shows when 1 minute its raining,then its sun shining and when it's REALLY hot as it protects you/dog from the suns rays but as your not inclosed you still get the fresh air around you. We see loads of others using them but if you don't want to be on the ground and its only for you and 1 dog the 1st thing looks OK to me. Seem really popular as well but I suppose it depends on how much space you actually need. Mom said she'd feel to enclosed even though it's got transparent sides.
