Having lost yet another metal name/number contact disc from my dog's collar! Can anyone recommend a strong disc tag or similar. The barrel types tend to fall off a lot. I thought this metal disc seemed sturdier and had a good metal ring!
He is micro chipped however if he got lost etc A visible contact number I'd prefer so a better chance of being reunited.

I have a slider type ID from Indigo. Just google indigo dog tags. It slides onto the collar, they also have ones for collars that clip together rather then buckle types. I have yet to lose one of these over the ten to twelve years I've used them. They can be engraved how you want them.
Because we spend a lot of time at our static caravan, I also have a disc id tag, but I changed the connector ring for a very robust one from an old key ring, the rings are usually the weak point. I have this connected to the buckle or clasp of the collar rather then the large D ring. The reason for that is that it's easy to connect the lead to ring of the dog tag by mistake, rather then the collars D ring. Not only have I lost dog tags as the ring parts easily, but it also means the dog is no longer on the lead!

Another vote for Indigo, got one after , as a pup, Zuma got the bone shaped disc caught in the side of his crate, Zuma had the scare of his young life and we had a major panic trying to get into the crate with him to get it loose or him out of his collar

Over many years I have found that metal tags with metal rings do not last very long whatever the make. Metal on metal always wears thin whether it is the disc itself or the split circular ring that attaches to the collar.
I have been using for quiet a few years "Identitag" discs. They are a vinyl type plastic, very hard wearing, the information on each tag is very clear and does not rub away.

My first tag to wear thin around the hole was easily 4 years old.

Purchased online and a large choice of colours, you can put a lot og information on both sides. Thoroughly recommended.

I would never buy a metal disk of any make again

I have used the brass identittags with the black filled engraving and not had some wear out in 15 years, it's always the split rings that wear so I just check regularly and replace the rings.

I have actually had a couple of the tags returned to me when found, probably because they look more expensive than the standard steel tags.

Metal on metal as I mentioned. Something will will wear thin in the end.

There needs to be some type of connecting ring/clasp that is not made of metal.

I've just been looking to see how old our discs are, my oldest dog will be 10 years later this year and I think is still wearing her original Identitag.

Thanks everyone!☺ I'm going to check out the slider type from Indigo site. I had stopped a "ring" from an old key ring thinking it stronger than the flimsy type that came with the metal disc obviously not that strong either.
I do like the idea of a back up tag too... Seems a lot of disc types are lost from collars.
Many thanks again for tips

I need something suitable for round half check collars as there is no opening, might resort to cable tie to hold them on, it is an issue LOL

I have just placed my order for a slider type ID tag. Liked the look of the collar with tag built in too. Just going to pop and get a disc done to tide me over until tag arrives just in case!

As I said in a previous post Zuma has an Indigo slider tag with the main info on but I also got a small disc - about ¾" -  done with 'Ear tattooed' and the phone no. on one side and his actual tattoo no. on the other side. Its small enough not to get in the way but would make life easier for anyone trying to read his ear no - if they even thought of looking for it !!!

I have webbing collars with all the relevant information embroidered on them. My dogs compete in agility and aren't allowed to wear collars with dangly bits on them when competing so the embroidered ones are great. Big choice of colours and they last really well. My oldest dog is on his second collar and he is almost 10. Really good value.

I bought mine from this supplier but there are others out there

I get these keyrings:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111442743803?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=410430674448&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

for my tags.  They are very strong, I've never had one go yet since I started using them.

Also, military dog tags are great as actual dog tags   They are large so easy to read, not too expensive, and embossed rather than engraved so they don't wear.  I've still got Remy's tags and they must be 10yrs old now, he had them on until he died last year and they look as good as new.  The only downside is that with a dog's activity levels, the silencers that they often come with (little rubber rings to go round the edges) give up very quickly but they aren't necessary.

Another indigo dog tag owner here, FANTASTIC!!!! it wont fall off or rip off and the engraving it very good, the last disc I had done before I got mine after a year you could hardly read it.

The indigo do ones for collars like that, that's the type I use on mine. Theres is a tiny gap in the metal to thread the top and bottom edges of the collar threw. Its never fallen off or caught on anything and think ive had it at least over 2 years. in fact some times find it a pain to get it off when I want to swap it to her harness, keep meaning to get a second one for it

here is a pic of mine on my girls half check

Love love love dogtagart.com
https://www.dogtagart.com/

Delivery is very speedy despite being in the US. The tags are totally customisable, and wear extremely well.

Ah round not flat I get you. Would it be possible to use a metal tube cut it  on one side so u can get the coller inside it then have it welded/soldered closed and engrave on your info on the tube?

Too technical what we need is something strong enough to hold a normal tag on.  As has been said a good metal tag doesn't wear out, it's the split rings.

Mine wear the KC Good Citizen dog tags that you can buy in colours matching whichever level they have achieved. It's a bit expensive getting them engraved, but they seem to last pretty well so far.

Update, still waiting for this I'd tag to arrive! Not impressed with the delivery service at all. If  on my original invoice it had advised 14 days delivery I would have brought a few more alternative tags to try.I emailed then I had response oh not be sent out until at least  8th and possibly arrive 11th! Now a home made tag on his collar, name, number will do until this tag arrives. I have in the time I placed this order, shopped elsewhere online and had all three parcels before my tag!
Not good.
