HI, has anyone had any good results clearing up walking dandruff with a no prescription product?

Thanks in advance
- By tooolz Date 24.07.15 09:23 UTC
Nope!

It's a persistent little blighter and builds up resistance to most products.
The really effective killers of this species have been removed from the market leaving us with Frontline SPRAY..not spot on ....and Advocate..both under prescription restrictions.
Those who say that the washes like Selene work..good luck to them..they won't for long.
Trust me I've been a Boxer breeder for four decades and they are very prone to this.

Ive just been on the phone to the vet and they no longer keep Frontline Spray they now stock Effipro. Has anyone used this?
I can buy this direct without him seeing the dog as he's seen within 6 months, Vets price is £31 for 100ml. I can buy online for half the price but need a prescription.

Frontline spray and Effipro spray both have the same contents /ingredients. My vet now only has Effipro he says it is the same just cheaper.
I use it and always keep a bottle for stand by, it is just as effective as Frontline

The active ingredient in Frontline is Fipronil and it IS a POM med for licensing reasons only apparently......
but apparently some of the online vet chemists are selling Fipronil in generic form, cheaper and off POM requirements. Try Vetmedics or Hyperdrug

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Walking dandruff is a mite. When you brush your dog and you see dandruff if looked at it under a microscope you can see it moving. In extreme cases brush your dog over brown paper fold the paper so its all gathered you can see it moving.

Good old Nuvan Top has been banned which may be just as well as it probably was as bad for dogs and people as fleas!!

Remember going to a talk by Scottish Boxer Club MANY years ago and these came up  cheyletiella pronounced more or less  Kye letti ella

You can now get one without script from Hyperdrug same ingredients and concentration

http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Fiproclear-Flea-Tick-Spray-For-Cats-Dogs/productinfo/FIPROSPRAY/

Effipro is made by Virbac and Frontline is Merial

I also have had boxers for decades and the only thing that removes Cheyletiella entirely now is Advocate spot on.  It really works.
