My girl was 58 days yesterday her temperture dropped to 37.1 in the morning 10.30 by 6pm it was 36.5 she's been clingy with me all day and night her stools this afternoon are loose her temperture is now 37.8 been in constant contact with the vet and she keeps reassuring me everything is fine puppies are active and are very low down now she's just sleeping and very content if she's by me bless as anyone experienced the low temp then high and for this amount of time without yet going into second stage thank you

My bitch was on day 62 when her temperature dropped. She didn't progress much at all by day 63, with the exception of panting, weeing frequently and a half hearted attempt at digging. On day 64, besides me being awake all night, she didn't progress any further at all. Decision was made to get the babies out via c section. It's hard to say what's going on with your bitch, but I am experienced and I just knew that something wasn't following the norm and suspected from day 63 that she wasn't going to sail through whelping. We hadn't even reached the shaking stage and when she completely relaxed enough to sleep at the vets, I knew those babies had to come out. It was like she wasn't interested in labouring.
My non breeding vet tried to convince me she could go to day 66 but I knew otherwise. Sometimes you just have to trust your instincts. A section was the last thing I wanted for my girl, but in fairness she came through it the easiest I've ever witnessed. She woke up desperate for her babies and starving hungry. Best mum ever despite a section.

I have found the temperature drop only reliable if taken at the SAME time each day. For instance I had a bitch who for the last few days of pregnancy was down to the 36's every afternoon......once her drop stayed for half a day then things got moving within 12 hours.

She sounds very relaxed and if not shivering, shaking or contracting I would try not to worry.

Thanks for the advice I was going to take her to the vet today but the vet said it wasn't needed but getting advice from other owners is more reassuring I'll keep my post updated
