Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Permission to Show- Cryptorchid

Wondered if anyone could clarify.

Can you get permission to show a male who has been castrated due to a retained testicle?

I had it in my head that the dog had to have two apparently normal descended testicles prior to castration in order to get permission, but I can't see any reference to that on the neutered dog form or KC website. The vet just has to say they've castrated the dog. I've either imagined that or there's info somewhere I can't see!

Anyone know? Don't want to pass on misinformation

As you don't need to get KC permission to show an entire dog nor a dog with one or less testicles that hadn't been castrated why should you have proof the dog was entire before castration. Castration is removing testicles & it is this that you have to notify the KC of.

The KC has no disqualifications' je the breed standards so any fault is relative in importance given in the breed standard.

Isn't it allowed to show neutered dogs now, without permission?   Not that if you do and your dog is up against a similarly good but entire male, he'd be unlikely to be put over the other dog.

I think you should probably phone the KC and get this confirmed.   I know I had 'permission to show' my spayed bitches but that was then, back in the day.

Sounds like I imagined it then. My mistake. It's just a straight forward notification of castration. Not my dog, and don't think my friend wants to show anyway but I will tell her I'm wrong.

Thanks

No, you have to send the form in from your vet and wait for the permission letter before entering a show, but permission is automatically granted for neutering, no questions asked.

You don't have to wait for no letter, just inform them.

I have never had a letter back after informing them of Inka's spay back in June, I sent it by email and had their automatic reply to say they had received it..

That's strange Brainless because I've had letters for all of mine including end of last year so not too long ago.

Barbara ~ You ought to have had a letter. I emailed them on 11 Oct & received the returning email(as you have) but I also received the confirmatory letter on 15 Oct.

Well doesn't really matter the rule only says not shown until you inform, and I've informed

That's not correct. The letter states you are NOW allowed to show again, and last year when I had a bitch spayed unexpectedly and wanted to enter her for a show, I contacted the KC and explained and they made sure I had the letter extra quick so that I could enter the show before the closing date.

If your dog or bitch gets neutered, you need to advise the Kennel Club to obtain a permission to show letter.

It really isn't helping us exhibitors that the KC keep changing the rules on this

No it's not, especially as showing is automatically allowed, so why the need to advise in the first place.

When the rule was shown as long as they had progeny, there was none of this silliness you just continued showing the girls after they were spayed following maternal duties.

Many people never bother telling the KC as with many breeds you couldn't tell for sure.
