Q:
My bitch came 1st in puppy out
Of 2.
Then got best puppy bitch, and went on to get
Best puppy in breed - beating the boy puppy who
Beat more than 3 other dogs.

This was a champ show - I can't see anywhere that I can claim points this way unless it's an open show?

I would have thought if you beat the puppy who had 3 in their class, you should be able to claim the points, same as at an open show? Seems awfully unfair if it's one rule for open and one to champ!

It's much harder theoretically to get the numbers at an Open show, and it only gets you one point, where at a champ it would get you three.

It's designed to encourage the Open show entries that's why some points have to be won there, it used to be 10.

In my breed it seems next to impossible to get the numbers in puppy classes at champs let alone Opens.

My last JW's were only won due to entering youngsters right up to Post Graduate, and they are both veterans.

No chance with the last two even though one was top puppy in her breed.

To be honest, I'm not totally in favour of this award, much as it is another thing to work towards.   For me, it can encourage people to trek round show after show with puppies who should be taking it slowly, rather than be shown all the time.   I guess it depends on how fast-maturing the breed is!   I'd rather keep mine back until they are 'ready' to be campaigned.

Email the KC and ask,  the rules are always being tweaked I remember when with one of mine you had to have 12 points  at champ shows 12 points at open show last point your choice as well as three in class and class wins only got 79 points in total just could not get last win at champ show 21 class wins as well but the main four to beat where all champs by two

I have just seen the following in the new rules:

Three points for the award of Best Puppy in Breed at a Championship Show where Challenge Certificates were on offer for the breed (effective from 1st January 2014). Only to be claimed if no qualifying Junior Warrant points were gained by that dog by winning a Breed Class or Classes at that show and only to be claimed if the dog awarded Best Opposite Sex Puppy has also gained one or more points having won a Breed Class or Classes at that show.

I think the confusion is because there are so many different rules found in the internet for JW!

Yes you need to always download the form from the KC website on which the rules are printed.

Can't remember when we last had a male JW winner in our breed.
