my gran been in hospital since last friday in sever pain with gullstone she been really ill
gran to get opertion tommorro to remove gullstone near her liver
really worried she 82yr and opertion very risky:cry:

Hi, I'm retired now, but I used to assist with the procedure your Gran sounds like she's having. It's called ERCP. It's done endoscopically and requires a very skilled and experienced Doctor to trawl the common bile duct with a tiny balloon and remove the gall stone or stones. It does involve making a tiny cut in the ampulla, where the common bile duct joins the duodenum. Of course there are some risks to this type of procedure as there always are, but they are fairly low and in my experience this is very very successful at making the patient feel much better very quickly

Sorry, had posting problems there before I finished. In most cases this procedure is done as a day case although perhaps if your Gran is already ill with this in hospital then she will likely stay in a few days longer. Please feel free to ask any questions I'll explain if I can.

thank you so much yes its ecp thingy she had mri yestday and numors blood tests she been on drip .gran had slight jaundic when she went in last frid could not keep food or fluids down frid sat sund but kept food and fluids down yest and today gran feeling better today its been so worrying if op goes well tomm the doctor says she can get out thurs

gran had opertion and now back on ward the nurse said she bit sleepy but opertion went well they will be checkin bloods later and tomm morning if everything goes well gran should be home tomm
she very special as gran brought me up she more like mum than gran

gran getting home today at 12noon so relived and happy as its been such worry
