Hi,
I have a 7 month old golden retriever puppy who has been diagnosed with panosteitis.
He's been lame on and off on different legs for a month or so. X-rays on both legs, shoulders, and elbows have confirmed it.
I realise there is no quick fix and it's a case of him growing out of it. He's currently on metacam. Has anyone experienced this and can offer us any advice? He's a super puppy and was best dog pup at his first champ show so this is very frustrating not to mention hard for him as he is only allowed controlled lead walks.
Are there any alternative therapies, supplements etc that may help? We are currently looking into hydro and physio to keep him in condition whilst exercise is limited.

My GSD - 8 in 3 weeks - had this when he was about 18 mth, also diagnosed by x rays, he was on metacam and limited exercise and just grew out of it. can't help with any alternative therapies, supplements etc that may help but he also saw a Chiropractic vet who said it was not 'fixable' and he would just grow out of it. - which he did over about a month with no further problems.

This is showing up in Bassets these days.   Called the creeping disease for obvious reasons (rotating round all limbs) the good news is it normally doesn't last that long, much as it can and when it does hit, it's very painful.   We treat with solutable aspirin actually.    Now this has happened, the dog shouldn't be used at stud because there is an hereditary connection - at least it is in my main breed.   I'm glad your vet recognised this problem because all too often, in our breed, vets would go to Hip or Elbow dysplasia.   He needs complete rest until it passes - and don't be fooled by the masking of pain by Metacam.  

I don't think, other than pain relief, there is anything you can do - it has to pass.  Growing pains!!

My gsp bitch had it on and off for the first almost three years of her life......came very close to putting her down as it was so incessant.  She is however now nine and has had six years pain/lameness free and runs with the best of them!
