
This is showing up in Bassets these days. Called the creeping disease for obvious reasons (rotating round all limbs) the good news is it normally doesn't last that long, much as it can and when it does hit, it's very painful. We treat with solutable aspirin actually. Now this has happened, the dog shouldn't be used at stud because there is an hereditary connection - at least it is in my main breed. I'm glad your vet recognised this problem because all too often, in our breed, vets would go to Hip or Elbow dysplasia. He needs complete rest until it passes - and don't be fooled by the masking of pain by Metacam.
I don't think, other than pain relief, there is anything you can do - it has to pass. Growing pains!!
