My 20 month old BC has suddenly stop doing his recall ha no problems till recently last week he had us trying to get him back for 2 hours. Have tried him on a 50foot training lead to no avail just runs out and looks at us. Have stopped throwing his kong ,retrained him to sit before we throw his ball seems to have worked to a degree, just wont come back

> 50foot training lead to no avail

The whole point of a long line is that the dog has no choice, he has to come back to you.

When he used to recall well, what did you use to praise that recall? A tasty treat, a game with a fun toy or just a pat and a good boy?
If he's just got bored about obeying you or because he's a teenager and being awkward, probably the best thing to do is to use the long leash, make him come back to you if necessary, and make a big fuss of him, tasty treat, game with the fun toy, make coming to you the best thing since sliced bread. If you lose control of recall at this age, it can be difficult to get it back and you end up with a dog doing vanishing acts until its time for tea. Really work hard at that recall, make it fun and exciting and very rewarding.
Good luck.

That's a really upsetting compilation, no wonder dogs get a bad press. Don't know which bit upset me most, the guide dog probably, with the cows a close second. All could have been avoided with training and a bit of common sense. When you take your driving test it's called anticipation - same applies with your dog. Some of the people seemed to be positively encouraging their dogs bad behaviour! I despair of the human race at times. Stick at it smithy, you're one of the good ones!

The hard work is beginning to pay he is running with the long lead still attached just in case he makes a dash you understand, he now comes back every time hard work pays

I think that making his ball/kong his focus, he now sits and waits till I throw the ball praising as I do. He comes flying back most times again to plenty of praise , now when we are out he sees someone with a ball/throwing stick and instead of jumping grabbing at the ball he sits in front of person much to there amazement . He is a much changed dog now work hard be patient and you will be rewarded my work continues: grin:
