i have a 4 month old rottie majority of the time hes good but when hes bad he bites/ pintches a lot and its getting harder and tried mostly everything getting up walking away telling sternly NO and he just looks and does it again even tried clove oil which works for abit but it hasn't really made him realise that he keeps doing it he gets a bad taste. its always nippin/pitching of the legs and feet. he even does it when I take him out for a walk on the fields he suddenly just starts nipping my shoes and legs for no reason. just really need some help on this iv looked up on google and asked trainers at puppy classes for advice and seem to get same answers but don't seem to work on him or works for a minute then hes right back doing it again. hope to hear back soon. cheers
You have to apply consistently and of course repeat repeat repeat
It's how canines play and he needs to learn that we are too fragile and wimpy to play like this: http://www.dogstardaily.com/puppy-biting Lot so other free downloads and articles on that site
Does the breeder live nearby? They are quite mouthy puppies in comparison to some breeds. Can you direct him to somethhbg else like a toy or treat? There is a good article on this for the breed on an American breeders site. Also maybe someone can post about the bite stops here from Ian Dunbar
I have to say that he sounds like a perfectly normal puppy to me. Although I don't expect that is what you want to hear.
The link that Barbara has posted for you is an article by Dr Ian Dunbar and it is the best article on puppy biting that you will ever find. Again, as Barbara has indicated, it is repetition that gives the results. It's just hard work I know, but you'll get there - and so will he.
My little terrier mix, 19 weeks, AKA Jaws, is the same. Following posts I've read on here, I am learning that when he doesn't listen to my 'no' sound and distractions with his own toys, he's getting over tired and then over excited. I just put him to bed. He complained for a short time then slept. It's hard being patient at times but worth the effort.
