I'm looking for some feedback on these collars.    I have used them before and they do work BUT my current Basset was fitted with his at the end of May.   Today when grooming him, I notice he has some quite sore and bald patches under his chin.   I've never had this happen before, and obviously have taken the collar off.   It's suppose to give protection for 7 - 8 months.   He's had his on for 1.5 months!   Given how much these cost even if they do apparently work, I am far from happy that this has happened and can't see the point buying this, if I have to take it off at this early stage?

Anybody experienced a similar reaction please?

I have a friend whose dog had sores/bald patches in areas around the collar. Then others who use them regularly with no ill effect. But yes, I have heard of this before. Perhaps take it back to the vet to discuss?
I have been using Bravecto this year, so far so good.

Just checked my GR and she has no red or balding patches. This is the second year she has worn a Seresto collar and had no problems last year. Maybe a more heavily coated dog is less affected?

I finally found somewhere to contact the makers who have just emailed me back for further information about my hound - they have also offered to make a full refund if I have him seen by my vet and I give them my vet's name etc.   I'm leaving the collar off for now, however (and trust we don't see a return of the fleas!) and hope to be able to put it on again once his reaction calms down.   I honestly can't keep running too and from the vet - he goes down there way too often as it is.   Obviously if he doesn't improve now the collar is off, I will get my vet to look at him (again!).

The makers say this is seen on some dogs, if rarely (well they would say that eh).  And for sure, having used this before, I've not seen a reaction like his.   But this hound is one of 'those'.   If I get a month away from the vet, for one or other reason, it's a good month!

ps   He does have a good fur covering under his chin - and of course, the folds Bassets do have (which may be part of the problem - much as my previous wearers have all been Bassets, with skin!).

I don't normally bother with anything for my girls, we do not have cats and have never seen a flea but we do get ticks. I view of the fact that ticks seem to be on the increase and Lymes is becoming more prevalent I have for the first time ever given them Bravecto this year. It lasts ( supposedly) 3 months and one dose should see us through June July and Aug the worst tick months. They had them 2 weeks ago and no ill effects so far. It was about £75 to dose the two of them, we will see how the tick season goes.
Hope he improves quickly now and you get some joy from the manufacturer.

I bought a couple of Scalibor collars for 2 of mine this year. They only deal with ticks but we don't get fleas anyway. The scalibor were really cheap on line ( about£10 each from memory.) Neither dog has had an adverse reaction.

I have lots of cats and we live in a rural area but I've not seen fleas for years -and ticks, well maybe once in the 80s, not since. I couldn't imagine using a chemical collar at all times, fair enough if you lived in Spain or something and had to worry about more, but not here.

In my village we don't see ticks at all, never have in the 20 odd years we've lived here and I rarely had to treat my dogs for ticks. However in a village about ten miles away they are rife and my friends dog is always picking them up. The reason? Deer.
Here, in Suffolk on the heathland where we stay regularly, there are a lot of deer and ticks, my dog was picking them up from the moment we came here in the spring, hence the Seresto collar which works well.

Some years ago we were holidaying in south Devon and I noticed both my light coloured dogs were covered in little black what I thought were little flies. Turned out it was ticks. They were covered in them and we spent ages picking them off. Everywhere we went they got covered in the little blighters, only the beach seemed to be a tick free place.
Ticks are definitely on the increase and with the worry of Lymes disease, I keep a close eye on the dog and treat accordingly. Wish humans could have a Seresto collar too.

Neither had we had fleas in recent years, apart from a few years back when one of our hounds picked them up in the vet we were using at the time (confirmed - it was from them!!).   BUT this year we have them and are not alone.   No ticks, so far but when we were inland a bit from the coast here, we had a few.   Sheep country.    Still it's marginally better than HARVEST MITES which we got, annually, back up East.   I hate them with a vengence as they make ME itch, never mind my hounds.

Watching this post with interest - Meg had a tick on her the other day - I didn't know what it was to begin with - she is my third dog and have never seen one before - it didn't look like a lot of the photos that I found until it started filling up with blood.   I was taking her to the vets the next day so was waiting to find out how to remove it - so many conflicting things on the internet.  However the dratted thing dropped off that evening - I don't know where - so have been washing bedding and hoovering.  Seems that with mild winters we are going to be seeing more of these pests.
