Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dog humping blanket

Hi everyone.

This morning my 4mth old b/c has started to hump the blanket in his bed. He has tried it on my leg before - no one elses! but I read that it was a sign of dominance. Does this mean that he's nearly sexually mature? and at what age can he be castrated, some books say 6mths and others say 12mths?

Can't throw any light on your problem but your post title made me smile :-)

Didn't think at the time! :o Too carried away with a sense of UUGH! It's the same sort of feeling as finding a dirty mag in my son's room (he's only 5 so hopefully I've got ages before that!). I know its natural but UUGH! :D

No, he's not sexually mature yet! Even 6-week old pups do this in the nest to each other - it's part of growing up. He's doing it to his blanket because there's nothing else available (or that will cooperate!:)) It's normal behaviour (bitches will often do it too).

Re castration age - the GDBA used to reckon the best age to castrate was 8/9 months, and they have loads of experience.

Hi
My first Gsd came home at 8 weeks old, pulled my sweatshirt from the laundry basket and went on to hump it. :)

Our old family dog was a GSDxridgeback, she was a lovely natured bitch but bed humping was her passion, she'd also try it on with legs..particularly those that belonged to houseguests  She did this for the twelve years we had her, even when her back legs got wobbly. Whatever floats yer boat is what I say!:)

Many years ago, before I was married, my in-laws had a CKCS. It would bring it's woolly jumper from it's bed and hump it in the middle of the lounge. My M-I-L said that she would have to cut it's meat down as too much protein caused it. She then said that she ought to do the same to her husband and that all the males in the family were the same :D :D

I still married my husband but haven't had the need, so far, to cut his meat down :)

Recently turned F-I-L's house out as he has gone into a home - he's 88 (M-I-L died ten years ago) - having seen what was in his cupboards I now understand what M-I-L was going on about :) :)

Not exactly, but let's just say that things in plain brown wrappers are still arriving in the post for him :)

:D :D :D Oh Dear me! Do you think he's been popping ginseng like jelly beans? Gosh they should bottle and sell whatever he's on. I remember my Grandparents forwarding an old nieghbours mail, the woman in question also recieved the brown envelopes. My Grandad spent abit too long flashing the contents and having a good gawk whilst voicing his 'disgust' at (ahem)lesbian reading material. :)

My hubbie is very gentlemanly and refuses to let me check his father's post :)

My Little crossbreed Terrier mix does the humping thing, she is six and has been spade for 5 1/2 years. But she is quite choosey, she will pick on my yorkie just one of our cats ( i have 3 ) and my poor old Aunt's arm.
It is quite funny but i do stop her when i catch her , poor pussy cat :(
