My boy sired a litter of pups and I thought that I should be there to help with the whelp as the owners were not experienced. Both dogs are DNA tested clear.
I arrived at 3pm Fri as she had lost her mucous plug. I then spent the next 10 hours waiting. First puppy born at 1am, beautiful, strong girl, which i delivered. By 2.30am, I thought there maybe a problem so vet was called. I took the girl to the vets (as children were in bed) this resulted in a c section for the remaining puppies.  I went  back to the owners house at this point to explain what had happened. I then left to go home at this point as the vet said to call back in 2 hours to collect her and the puppies. I arrived home at 4.30am. In all 5 puppies were safely delivered , beautiful puppies, so much like my boy. What did i get ,6 farm eggs and a thank you. Posts on FB with photos, no mention.

why do I bother? maybe because I am committed.....does not get me much sleep.

There are two possible scenarios. Either a) they are planning to thank you properly later when they have their heads together, or b) that was it, six eggs and a short thank you. I'd like to think that a) was on the cards but given an experience I had a few weeks ago, b) is more probable.

Whatever happens I suppose you can take comfort from a lovely litter of puppies, safely delivered which might not have been the case otherwise. Poor little beggars can't help having ignorant owners. There will be some new puppy owners out there getting a great deal of happiness as a result of your efforts - and some of us appreciate exactly what goes into whelping, so well done!!

I had a friend/breeder assist me during the whelping and since then, I've thanked her on FB and to her face and also sent flowers. I plan to sort something else out for her but finding the right thing and having the time means I haven't done it yet.
Ignoring the FB side maybe they've not had the time to give you a thank you gift and maybe they are waiting for the pups to be sold to do it properly.

Your topic says "Thanks would be good"

I think that's all you're getting!

Bless.........some people are just not very good at expressing themselves. I expect being her first litter it was all a bit unexpected the vet visit probably not part of what she was expecting and with her being out of the loop in not taking the dam to the vet and collecting her and the pups, I guess the effort you went to does not register that you went above and beyond.

Must admit, generally when I've been on hand with first time breeders,  the breeder is so caught up in everything going on and the wonder of the pups that we do sometimes become a passing glance, part of the furniture if you like, I've always felt appreciated though but usually expect the real heartfelt thank you to be a few days later, once it all sinks in.

I guess the facebook thing is her not wanting to look as though she didn't cope with it all on her own in front of her potential puppy owners?........perhaps........not really knowing her. I doubt she even knows you are a little upset to get no mention, people are fickle.

We don't do it for flowers (although they are nice ) or for praise, we do it to ensure a safe and protected dam and pups, so pat yourself on the back deservedly so, and just remember the dam sure thanks you and appreciates what you did, enjoy your eggs  (well more useful than flowers I guess ) and be proud that you are a reliable and caring breeder.

I'm thinking maybe shock of how delivery went and a c - section for novice breeders probably threw them for a loop! I'd hope a belated special ty coming your way say a lunch or dinner out
