Argh just need to sound off! I thought I'd been so organised pre booking euros and got back just. Had to spend a penny so just put passport on coffee table. Came down dog in middle of garden chewing passport! Bitten chunk off left bottom corner through entire book. Photo at top just eaten but chip and details intact! He didn't eat euros and I go in three weeks! Will it be accepted in Europe?

i am not an expert, but fairly sure if there is any damage, however slight, to your picture, they will refuse to allow you to travel. If the photo page is in anyway damaged most airlines will not allow you to fly, because if you get turned back at your destination airport then they get a hefty fine.

Best make a personal appointment with the passport office to get a replacement.

At any rate phone them perhaps scan it to show the damage, once you have a human contact.

Thanks all for advice I've booked an appointment at passport office for Friday for one week service.! Typical we always sign friends passports but now I have to find someone for me! I had 5 years left on passport! I do not have a photographic driving license so that's not an option! Never trusted idea of just using that in Europe although it says we can!

Saxonjus, you don't need to get your passport photo signed by anyone when you are just renewing it, (done enough of them ) it is only for people who are having a first passport or they look totally different to their previous photo etc.

I did call passport office they advised as a current passport and damaged I'd have to have photos counter signed to confirm true identity! Plus I've aged 5 years lol. I am going to the post office tomorrow for forms and to double confirm! Phew my nurse friend came to the rescue re signing. If I'd have said lost same rule applies they said!
The dog didn't eat or chew kindle or remote controls on table! I pick these up daily just today chose the passport I'd just put down for a few minutes!

I understand, I guess if the photo is damaged in any way they would need proof, so much identity theft around today.

My dog did this with just over a week Togo for the flight, couldn't renew as it was damaged and went to the passport office in London who advised the 7 day turn around wasn't possible for damaged passports only simple renewals.
I then went to the airport and spoke to the airline and they confirmed that because where I was due to fly to they would accept me In with my damaged passport but I wouldn't get it again.
I lost my holiday that year!

TBH, at least people would see their chiropodist regularly (if using one) would know you by your face, (after your feet )

I don't know about other people, but I've always found it strange using your Dr. My Dr wouldn't know me from Adam, luckily I am so far blessed with good health, never go to the Dr's, so what is the point in paying a fee for a signature? I might not be me and there they are signing a photo of a person who most don't even know by our face, unless you live in a small village or are regulars, always found it strange.

Best person to ask to sign your passport photo -your VET! They tend to see enough of you to know you and they do count as a suitable professional. It's definitely what we have done. Doctors tend to charge and won't know you as well.

How awful you missed holiday because they do not do an on the day replacement for damaged passports! In reality if they advise you to book appointment after travelling miles it should be replaced that day not a week later! Plus now I have to be on patrol for courier as they will not use outside postbox! If they push it through letter box the dog will EAT it argh!
I'm amazed I had to fill in parents details, passport numbers and the counter signature has to also fill out form. My GP surgery has so many trainee doctors turn around on staff how can they sign they know me!? I'm lucky if I see the same one twice and they charge a lot. Our vet not seen a lot of (touch wood) and they charge too. Luckily a friend of my in laws has signed for me, hurrah for retired teachers So all ship shape for Newport I hope!

They shouldn't just push it through, the courier required a signature when mine came recently!

Ironically my friend who is a nurse didn't realise her passport had expired in April,! Only found out after going to find her passport for me. She hadn't checked it in a while missing last year's holidays re family issues. She is now doing her forms too! Guess it happens we forget renewal dates.

Mine was delivered recently - I was sat in the front room, saw the man take a picture of my door and just popped it through the letter box! My terrorist picked it up but luckly I prempted her actions and was ready to catch her out :P

I can maybe understand why, but without permission...? How do you know it wasn't some random stalkery person if they didn't advise you beforehand?

It does say on the q&a form if your out it will be delivered not in an external mailbox and the courier takes a photo of the house That's why I'll be on high alert re post through door. We couldn't find a wire cage for inside it's why we went for an external mailbox. Took me 2 weeks to train the postman

OH get quite a lot of thick A4 envelopes (council papers ) and the normal cages would have been too small so he 'converted' a wire freezer basket to suit - 25 yrs on it is still in place and works a treat

MsTemeraire he did look like an odd fellow!! Haha But we get them around here :P After he signed the little computer thingy and posted the passport I tonight he must have been official. I guess it's to cover their backs Incase someone says they Havnt received it!

(As long as they don't use Yodel... They put a parcel at my door three times (in Somerset) and less than an hour later it was signed for in Scotland!! Wouldn't want that happening to my identity hahah!)

Interesting what you say about Yodel. My son's laptop never did arrive. The company he ordered from had to send a second one........ with a different carrier.

Newport visit done and dusted! Advised any time from Tuesday courier could deliver so it's all stations at the letter box! Took dog with me today for a walk and also lovely trip to Monmouth!  Thou if they had questioned me re incident I could have bite matched him with his handiwork on passport!

I have an outdoor mail box just passport office advised will not post a passport in one! However before courier came with my new one good old postie popped in my mailbox my returned cancelled albeit damaged passport
