Has anyone got one???
I have been looking at them and I am still trying to decide if they are any good. I don't (won't) pay out for a g-tech or a dyson but some are a lot more sensible price.

I have a decent one for doing a proper clean but there are two places - on the landing just at top of the stairs where dog lies quite often and also round my stool in the spare bedroom - also known as my workshop!! which could do with going over a lot oftener and its a pain having to hump my big cleaner upstairs just for the two bits.
I don't really have space or inclination to get another ordinary one to keep upstairs but the rechargable ones seemed a possible thought with no cord to fiddle about with.

Any experience and recommendations please?

We've a little handheld Dyson for the stairs. It's forever on charge and can conk out before the job's complete, but it is easier than heaving a big vac about.

Hi - I have a g-tech Air Ram.  I know you have said that you don't want to pay out for one - and I can understand that - they are v. expensive and I was very nervous about buying ours.  BUT I have to say it has changed my life !!!!  It's transformed the housework routine and I use it every day for something, in-between full vacuuming, for spot cleaning (landing, kitchen anywhere the dogs go) or for a quick clean when I haven't got time to hoover properly.  It picks up really well and lasts a long time before needing recharging.  We've made a sturdy hook to hang it up out of the way when not in use - doesn't take up much space.  For us it has been a really good investment.  Worth considering, but sorry I can't help with other makes.

We have a cordless Dyson and at first thought great! We have it upstairs on its charger to save me lugging the bigger Dyson upstairs with my back.Easy to handle upstairs and light. It charges well and at first did the pick up cats hair etc well however I've noticed a loss of suction. I've taken it apart and it wasn't dirty, still doesn't suck as well leaves the hair on carpet and doesn't seem as powerful after two months. I am in contact with store and Dyson 8 case a dodgy one?. For the £200+ we paid I wished I'd brought a new ball Dyson and had that for upstairs.
Its good for the car but a gimmick.
G - plan my mom in law has this is quite noisy, socks lots of the carpet fibres up! & fills very quickly!

My friend has 5 large dogs and had a handheld Dyson but she said the battery runs out before getting the whole job done, she now has a Miele (expensive) but said its the best vacuum she's ever owned,it is a proper vacuum though not a handheld. Another friend has a G tech air ram and said although expensive its also changed their lives too for the exact same reasons as Blay has commented, she's over the moon about it and uses it daily. Hope that helps

Not an AEG cordless cleaner. My Mum has one, it's fine for her little two up two down but it's pretty rubbish and would struggle to suck up a feather!

We find you need to clean the cordless Dyson filters more regularly than the wired models! Our cordless has had more filter cleans in the three months than our 5 year model. We use it less maybe twice a week.

Thanks for the comments, used a number of different Dysons (working as a home help  so 'try before you buy'!! ) I never liked any of them so going by recommendations it looks like I will have to shell out for a G Tech if I want one that will work

Good luck with your decision.  Ref the G Tech Air Ram - as someone has said, they do fill up quite quickly (inevitable with lots of dog hair and the fact they are quite small machines) - but emptying them is quick and easy to do.  Also, I find mine picks up really well from all surfaces (carpet, tiles and wood etc)  Having got used to it I would hate to be without it now!

Ive got a vax cordless one, its pretty useless! Certainly cant cope with dog hair, it just about has enough suction to do the car.

I'm looking for a small hand held vacuum to have in the motorhome. Last time we were away with the dog everything ended up as furry as she was.
Currently eyeing up the Black and Decker 18v pivot vacuum which has good reviews. Anyone had any experience of this one in relation to pet hair?

Well I thought I would update this thread. I bit the bullet and spent a fortune on the G tech after the recommendations on here. I bought the vac and the hand-held thingie.
The vac is Wonderful I have been using it at least once a day - as opposed to dragging the big one out when I can't stand the dog hair drifts any more  .
As someone said it doesn't hold much when you are talking about Shepherd hair but its a doddle to empty. Thoroughly recommend one to anyone else.
Only used the little hand held for hair and cobwebs in awkward corners but that is easier than the extension hose on the big one as well.

I was wondering what you went for (I see you bit the bullet)

I have already earmarked it for when I need a replacement.

So glad you are pleased with your G Tech.  It can be tricky recommending as we're all different and have different requirements but mine has made cleaning SO much easier and I'm not at all surprised you are delighted.  Brilliant invention!  Happy vacuuming!

Would you mind if I update on what I bought for the motorhome?

I liked the look of the G Tech one, but it's a bit big for our motorhome, so decided to get the B&D 18v pivot one I was looking into. It arrived yesterday and it appears to be exactly what I was looking for. It folds up quite small and will easily stow away in the MH and is pretty powerful. It has an intergrated brush that enables me to scrub the dog hairs out of the carpet as well as a crevice tool. We are off tomorrow in the MH so it will have a good trial to see how it does under stress, which I'm sure it will be with all the hair.
