Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Where can I find out?

Where can I find out who is eligable to show under who? for example we know that you cannot show under the person who bred your dog, but where does it actually say that? Can I show under someone who has got or who has had a dog in partnership in with me? Can someone who has handled a dog for me in the past then show their dogs under me. There seems to be unwritten rules about what is ethical but does anyone know if these rules are covered by the KC rules and Regs? Thanks Jan

hi,

best thing to do is check the schedules, but as far as I know, if you are a breeder, you cant judge the dogs you have bred. I think that goes for partnerhips as well.

Have a look at the kennel club site, or give them a ring.

I might be wrong here but I don't think there is anything written down as such that you can't show under friends. I think it is more of a gentleman's agreement.

And if you do there will be plenty of people that will tell you that you have done wrong and should never had shown under such and such.

I am sure that there are rules with regards to showing under Breeders, Handlers etc.

I'm sure it is more than a gentleman's agreement now that you cannot enter a dog under it's breeder, likewise you can't judge a dog you've handled within the past year, a dog boarded with you (If you have boarding kennels), a dog that used to be in your ownership.

Don`t know the exact rules, but think you can judge dog`s you`ve bred & sold after a certain time you sold them. I know you can do that under the FCI rules & they show under friends here, but I also thought the BVA had a similar ruling.

Edited. BVA????? don`t know why I put that! I Mean KC

Really J???? Is that for always, I mean if you breed a dog & then sell it you can never judge that dog in it`s life? Talking about in the UK.

hi,

just raed thru the .pdf files on the pc, found the bit i was after in the Nuneaton and district canine show.

it reads

"31.A dog may disqualified by the general commitee form any award, whether an objection has been regestered or not, if proved amongest other things to have been:- a)regestered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled judge, this shall not apply to a judge appointed in an emergency. b)exhibited without payment of appropreate entry fees."

downloaded the schedule from another site.

Its more than a gentlemans agreement & if you get your copy of the KC red book out its in there. There are also rules regarding judging a dog you boarded or handled within a specific time frame prior to the show.

Hi Sam, got the red book out yesterday before I posted this so must have missed that bit. Can you let me know which section it is in? I think the bit about showing under the breeder is pretty well known but the rest is a bit more hazy. Personally I dont like friends to show their dogs under me as they dont stay friends for long that way!!!!! but it something that is becoming very very prelevant in our breed to the point that they must think the rest of us got off the last banana boat! Up to a couple of years ago I attended every Champ show come hell or high water taking up to 5 dogs at a time. This year I think I will be going to about 5 Champ shows having gone through this years list of judges and eliminated them for various reasons The main one being for crooked judging. There wasnt one show last year that I didnt enter under that I regretted. Says it all really. Right thats my Saturday morning rant thank you very much LOL Jan
