Long time since I visited site, I was Poloaussie.
Now have a wonderful  toy poodle puppy along with my aussie terrier and felt it was time to come back to CD and refresh my self and you guys with the goings on.
I lost Jack my other Aussie terrier and couldnt bear to think I was simply replacing him hence breed change.
Roscoe my new boy is a delight! I wonder why I hadn't gone with a toy poodle soooner.
The fun and games are on with out a doubt let the games commence.

Welcome back :-)

Welcome back, and good choice.  Remember that they are the second most intelligent breed (after Border Collies.)  So training is a must, or they will find something to do.  I actually trained a Toy Poodle in tracking.  She loved it.

They are very good at obedience.  The classes I went to with my BC boy had 2 Standard Poodles who were fantastic.

I am totaly enamoured, 'Roscoe' is 12 weeks old today and already plainly the most intelligent puppy I have had.
Sadly his arival has shown up Laryngeal paralysis in my 7 year old  'Chelsea' although she must have had it from birth as her bark was /is always a thing to be laughed at rather than bothered by. However we will have to get on with it and see how this transpires she is on antibiotics for a chest infection and having to be kept a little quiet.............with the puppy!
Official training classses start on Thursday, any advice will glady accepted, I am so enjoying him but as above his arrival is bittersweet.

Oh Karen I'm so sorry to hear about Chelsea.  I have a Chihuahua Long Coat here who was such a noisy breather that she worried me.  (Her bark is like a budgie with hiccups.)

My vet diagnosed everted laryngeal saccules - whatever that may be.  He said that he would remove them but it turned out to be a difficult thing to do.  By the time he got a tiny camera in, he inserted scissors only to find that, if he opened them, he was likely to damage the vocal cords.  So he did what he could.  With those snatchy things (the one where they take biopsies by snatching) he was able to take bits away.  I'm sure that he explained it to me in a rather more veterinary way.

She is still very noisy if I'm honest, but he didn't have a lot of room.  Looking at the breed I'm surprised there is room to do anything much.  As your girl isn't old, do you think that you might opt for surgery once she has got over the chest infection?

Her bark is like a budgie with hiccups...that made me laugh JeanSW...not the poor condition that your dog has but that comment.

That's sad too, but I do understand the analogy!
I hope we dont have to consider the op, although she is only 7 she has managed wellso far and maybe if we dont over exercise her she can be fine. If I understnd it correctly she will be at more increased risk of aspiration with it than without it, anyhow we are back for a further check on Friday so hopefully she willl sound better and we can wait and hope there is no more trouble for her..........

Karen
Do come back and let us know how things go with her on Friday.

Well she still has some crackles therefore infection hasn't quite gone so further antibiotics.
However thankfully vet doesn't want to consider surgery at this point, and to be honest I dont know that I would at all.
Lets just hope it all works itself out from here.
Roscoe however is great fun still and a delight every day. canr wait to let them off lead together on the common.

At least your vet has kept her on AB's.  I hope she goes from strength to strength.
