Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / mated bitch took a tumble
- By gsdowner Date 25.05.15 21:30 UTC
My husband's number one security girl was mated 3 weeks ago (tomorrow) but today, whilst in the yard, she saw a bee/fly/wasp buzzing over her head and made a jump to grab it. She misjudged her jump and fell back on her side quite hard. Should I be worried or watch her more carefully over the next few days? Do i need to look out for anything?

When it happened, she got straight back up again and carried on as normal, although she did bump my youngest girl in the face at the same time and made her bite her tongue (sounds like madness I know!). Just a little worried she might absorb or abort from the shock.

I don't think that this early on in the pregnancy will have any effect.  I had a worry with a Chi bitch in late pregnancy that jumped over a fence.  Not knowing that their was a 7 foot drop the other side.  I nearly had kittens.  She seemed totally unperturbed and whelped with no problems.  They worry us to death don't they?  I wouldn't be too worried about your girl.

Obviously any knock isn't ideal, but as suggested, I think it would be more 'serious' potentially, further into the pregnancy.   I guess all you can do is keep fingers x-d and if you see any nasty discharge, or abnormal discomfort, get her checked by your vet.    Basically what will be, will be really although right now any pregnancy will only just have begun and the 'puppies' just be little pearls.

Thank you both. Yes jean, she simply lives for the day I will die from a heart attack. Then she will rule my house (can just imagine her rubbing her paws with glee whilst doing an evil laugh). Even though she is a fully trained working girl, she has two left feet and no sense of her tail. Not a single week goes by when she doesn't clear the coffee table with her tail or trips over her own feet! Am hoping that wil be in her favour regarding the fall.

I guess its all down to fate and nature as mamabas says....will be keeping my fingers crossed...

One of my girls had a really nasty fall when she was 27 days pregnant and went on to have a very healthy litter, so fingers crossed this happens for you.

She also happens to be extremely clumsy. We often joke that the only thing she doesn't fall over is her own shadow. I put it down to the fact she lives in a permanent state of excitement and happiness.

Thank you :) am feeling less apprehensive today. Like I said, she got right back up and carried on as normal. The positive experiences fill me with a little hope yet.

My bitch skidded across the floor and tumbled/landed on her side quite hard at 5 weeks........went on to have 10 live pups

I had hoped the 'giddy-ness' would improve but past experiences have shown that she gets worse once mated!

    I see you've been reading Hans Anderson's Fairy Tales!!!!!!

Just think.....if she lives to a ripe old age (god willing) I'll be away with those flaming faires....possibly floating around in a fairy liquid induced bubble!

Just to update... she had her scan at 28 days and scan shows she's not pregnant. Can't seem to catch a break.
