My old girl has daily 0.8mg soloxine to treat her underactive thyroid and I have just had her 6 monthly bloods done and prescription (same dose) written so I can buy the next batch online, however it seems Soloxine is now removed from the shelves and the recommended Thyforon is also unavailable, many of the online pharmacies are telling me until next year!

Do any of you have a dog being treated for underactive thyroid? What medication are you using and where do you get it from?

Starting to have a little panic now that I can't get her tablets

I have had the same problem on and off for over a year, my girl is on 0.6mg a day. Somehow whenever I can't get it on-line my vet manages to get hold of it. I've just had a prescription I paid £15 for expire due to being constantly out of stock and my on-line supplier says the manufacturer can't keep up with demand.

I would speak with your vet, they should be able to help you, even if it's making up the dose with 0.1's, as inconvenient as it is.

I've been told the same, and that it applies to all the tablet sizes.  I use 0.3mg and 0.5mg here.  I've managed to get it so far but not sure how much longer, and I've been told that there is an alternative which of course, is more expensive!  They haven't said what it is though.

Just spoken to them, apparently our replacement is Thyforon but they don't know how long for!

Same here... The vet said they will be in the same boat as us soon and we will have to move onto the liquid which is expensive and only once that is unavailable can they offer human versions.

Fingers crossed the supplies come in soon!

The liquid won't be an option for Paige if we reach that stage, we've tried it once and it doesn't suit her.  Can't get it into her without food, and not effective enough with it.

Still having the same problem here, just picked up another months worth of Thyforon today and they have now run out of the higher dose so having to give 4 tablets per day to make it up to the right amount.

It's so frustrating. My vet said they hope to have Soloxine back in around 2 months as advised by the company so fingers crossed this is accurate and we can get back to normal very soon.

They said there was a manufacturing issue with Soloxine and the company that makes Thyforon is small and can't keep up with the sudden increased demand.

ah ok thank you for replying.
I have had to order the 200mcg thyforon and she needs 7 tablets a day!!!! nightmare
hope things return to some normality soon

Oh god, let's hope 2 months is true if the Thyforon is already running low!  Saffi's been switched to it already but Paige is still on the soloxine, she'll need more next week though.

I don't find the extra tablets a problem with the Thyforon though - Saffi gets 5 a day - with it being flavoured, she just eats it out of my hand!

My lad only started on levothyroxine 200mcg tablets 2 weeks ago. Although the leaflet in his tablets says Thyforon, the actual tablet packets are labelled as Canitroid, and appear to be in Spanish. Both trade names are the property of Europet. and the tablet descriptions sound identical.
