Hope it's ok I post here..

We mated our girl in march didn't work.. Vet says possible phantom. She's had a clear mucus discharge since the mating we assumed it was connected to a possible pregnancy. It's now looking like her vulva is always moist or wet & today it smells horrendous! Like fish or worse. It's def her front & not anal glands. Going to vets this evening but any ideas??

Is she well in herself? Is she licking a lot? It could be vaginitis. Hopefully a course of antibiotics will clear it up.

Seems totally fine. Nope isn't cleaning herself at all. Weirdly hasn't once since we mated her.

Is there any chance she could have pyometra? An article I read while booking my older bitch in for a spay mentioned that sometimes it can initially appear to be a pregnancy due to discharge, swollen belly and I specifically remember it describing a fishy or foul smell from cervix. If I remember right it also says its possibly more likely in cases where a bitch has a failed or aborted pregnancy or pregnancy complications.

I hope your girl is okay and its nothing too serious.

I agree with tinar, my biggest worry would be a pyo.

What have the vets said?

Pyo is the first thing that comes to mind with a fishy smell too. I don't remember vaginitis having a smell at all.

My girls didn't smell either when she had it

vet check immediately, dogs don't always show ill health with pyo

Me too went to Pyo as I read this.   If only because of the foul smell.   I've had juvenile vaginitis in a young bitch we had (stubborn to clear) but it didn't smell at all.

Said it's most likely vaginitis. Took a urine sample & put her on anti bios. If no better in a few days she's to get a blood test. Really hope it's not pyro!!!

My girl is just getting over open pyometra that was successfully treated with Alizin. She had absolutely no symptoms other than discharge and it wasn't smelly either please keep watch and you may be able to catch it early like me.

Will do thanks. Hopefully it's just the vaginitus.
