No idea how they are going to go about all this ......but:confused:......mandatory dog dna testing would probably mean new laws put to the commons & then house of lords before any law could be enacted.

Maybe DNA testing has moved on but when I asked about testing DNA on human waste I was told it wasn't possible to solve a crime.

It's being trialled in Barking....... it means that as well as microchipping, dogs also have to give a swab for their DNA, apparently a swab of dog poo will then match to the DNA swab.

Obviously councils must be getting a lot of complaints to even trial this........we all get annoyed by it.  Just seems extreme to me, to make it a job for someone.......(I wouldn't want that one) but, I guess it is a way for councils to make money, to start with there would be a lot of fines, who doesn't come across dog poo? It would be good for those who do not pick up to be traced at last. I guess the sheer number of dogs and owners we have in this country is making councils volley for this.

If it becomes law, I would suggest that everyone destroys their dog poo, I can imagine bored teenagers digging it out of dog bins and scattering it to have owners fined, the mind boggles.

Dog ownership is getting more and more scary.

Yes I saw that.

One question both the m/chip & now the dna test in barking raises in my mind is how are those on benefits going to find the money for it? DNA testing for Dobermann parentage proof has been a mandatory test in Germany & quite a lot of other mainland European breed registration clubs for a long time as a breed registration club pre-requisite for registering the pups, but, the breeder must pay & of course thats passed on to the buyer. It is far from cheap & I find it difficult to believe those here on benefits will bother with either & rather face getting found out< >not much prospect of that happening.

Yes the exact same thought crossed my mind, they did mention it would add to councils income (£80 fine) and taking into account it costs councils quite a lot of money to get a new bye-law on the statutes I suppose it must be quite bad there to make worth councils expenditure.

The fines are £1000 in the London Borough where I live.  It doesn't stop people not picking up though, including professional dog walkers - the place is full of dog poo.  The problem is enforcing the laws and there is no will or funding to do so.

Same here, a  few on the spot fines by the community bobbies would soon get results
