My bitch went to stay with her stud 2wks ago.. She stayed a wk. There was no obvious tie to be seen but we are told they had a few slips. She was/is a maiden.
Since coming home she's been ravenous & today there's like a white mucus discharge. It's not dripping etc it's just there until I wipe. It's only been 2 wks since we took her to the stud. Is this possibly signs or am I just wishful thinking.

Could very well be a sign. If you know your girl
really well it is worth mentioning that I can always tell on day 21 after mating. The nipples take on a rosy hue.

That's interesting, as this is the most positive pregnancy sign in cats.... "Pinking up". Does it occur in phantoms?
Dogs are different, I know; but when I bred cats there were other signs - about 10 days after a successful mating they took on a special bloom to the coat (shorthaired breeds), noticeably extra shiny extra silky, which would correspond to a big hormone surge following implantation.

I have only ever bothered to check nipples on a bitch that I have intentionally mated. So never thought to check a bitch with phantoms.

Yes me to, so sometimes I think any signs we see when we want a bitch to be pregnant are wishful thinking (says she with a bitch missing twice on the trot ;( )

I'm just desperate to find out & put myself out my misery..
We've waited a long time to do this & I'm crossing everything she is. She's tired, her vulva is still slightly swollen, she's ravenous & had the strange discharge. It's all probably nothing :-(

With my recent bitch:
1 week post mating we got thick white double cream from her vulva when examining
2 weeks it had a slight green tinge and required antibios
1 week post mating she stole food off the work counter (has never ever even looked on the work counter- a breed large enough t rest her head on the counter edge)
3 weeks post mating her nipples were a bit pointier
3 weeks post mating she had egg white cervical mucus when examinining her bits
Her vulva remained puffed up long after her season (noticeable because normally she has the tinist little vulva ever)
From 1 week post mating she was STARVING ALL THE TIME.
Scanned at 28 days- pups
Had 5 pups 2 days ago

How long did she have the discharge Tanya?

The white/ green lasted from 1 week until the end of the second week.... then it went like raw egg white, and if you touch it, it is stretchy between your fingers. Gross, I know

When I say green.... It was the teenish greenish tinge, not GREEN green.... more like the colour of a single drop of food dye dropped into a pot of double cream

Hi
Just wanted to ask.. My dog is still showing the signs in this post I posted a few wks ago. She's now 4 wks from mating & I will be scanning her this wk. She's been on/off her food & sick a few times. Not looking different physically too much.. Other than previously described. Although when we are out walking she tried to eat grass.. Any ideas why she would want to eat the grass?

because she feels sick.
My medium 20kg girl at 6 weeks barely showed, now at nearly 7 weeks a bit more, we shall see what she ahs at this stage I think only three or four, but oen of my older girls didn't show until 7 weeks and was carrying 8.
Maiden fit bitches often don't show until later.

Ok thank you, is it ok she eats it? I'm still unsure she's actually pregnant. But since she's still having signs and the clear stretchy discharge I'm hoping that's all positive.

As long as it hasn't been sprayed with toxic substances or you have a big slug and snail issue. I'd not panic but would discourage. All she is trying to do is irritate her stomach so she can throw up.
Sickness or feeling sick 9so off food) is due to the hormones released at the implantation stage, which is around 3 weeks from mating, so dogs tend to have morning sickness in the second trimester rather than the fist as in humans,.

No, no slug probs here thankfully. Ok will just be careful with her eating it.
What should I expect to see if anything around wk 4-5?

If she is a maiden and not a tiny toy bred then nothing other than her nipples beginning to pink up.
I have a bitch who is also hopefully 4 weeks this Tuesday from her first insemination. So far she has had different discharge but it has now turned to the clear stringy discharge. She will also eat grass sometimes when I give her the chance starting about a week ago. Her nipples have definitely pinked up & swelled slightly but nothing overly obvious.
So sounds like out girls are very similar in their symptoms, my fingers are crossed for you!

Ok thank you guys!
Oh that's exciting! Are you planning on scanning this wk too? This is my girls first (if she is) we've planned this for so long so I'm desperate to know. Fingers crossed for us both.

Yes it sounds we have very similar cases! I plan on taking mine in this Friday to have a scan done.

I'm going a week today!
Let me no how you get on. Good luck xx
You can easily convince yourself that the nipples of a phantom are pinking up, but they usually really are noticeably pinker and larger, with no grey tinge at all after 3 weeks or so if the bitch is pregnant.
I find that coloured discharge/bleeding will also clear up much more quickly with a pregnant bitch than with a missed bitch.
By Axe97

Wish I paid more attention to her nipples before this, I've been looking at photos of her but it's too hard to tell, I "think" they are bigger but as you know I could be convincing myself. Still the discharge (colourless) and looking a bit wider. She's not eating in the morning realkt then afternoon will eat all day/night! Literally no clue till Monday. I suspect I'm in for one huge disappointment.

I find that a bitch having a false pregnancy is quite normal up to about 6-7 weeks post season. Vino at 9 weeks post season has started to refuse food and carry "babies" around. The other signs never materialize, like discharge or pink nipples.
Hope you get good news it all sounds very hopeful to me.

Thanks Aileen, we are hoping so. Your post has helped my nerves though so thank you. Xx
Have you gotten a scan yet? I took my girl in today, she is 31 days from the first inseminaton & 26 from the last. The vet didn't see anything but he's not that experienced & I believe he was in a hurry. I have another appointment next Friday. She has all the symptoms so I'm still confident she's pregnant.
Oh I see you're going in Monday, well good luck! We're both under the same stress!

Wishing you both lots of luck and success with pregnancies.

Yes Monday, can't come soon enough.
That's so annoying about your vet how useless.
What kind of symptoms is your girl having?
Yea he looked for around 45 seconds & said he didn't see anything but I could bring her back...ugh, he had the scanner in one tiny part of her tummy, didn't move it around or anything.
She started having discharge exactly how Tanya describes that her pregnant bitch had starting into her 2nd week. It went from milky to eventual clear & stringy. 2-3rd week she began getting sick to her stomach & eating grass. Before her nipples were very small, now they sometimes have a pinkish color to them & they're beginning to hang down, lots of breast tissue & growth. Her tummy is even pinking up & she hasn't gained any weight but her body shape has changed quite a bit.
I've heard a lot of vets seem confident in ultrasounds but really have very little experience with it.

Sounds very encouraging

Quite like my girl. Lying rubbing her belly this morning & I don't know if they've always been like this but her nipples look like they've got little like circles or holes where the milk would come out?! I can't remember if she's always had that, which is ridiculous cause I check her everyday

> I've heard a lot of vets seem confident in ultrasounds but really have very little experience with it.
Ain't that the truth!
Don't let that get you down! My vet also said he didn't see anything but to come back next week. After talking to several vets (that are too far for me to go to) they didn't seem very confident in my vet's experience with pregnancy ultrasounds. Is yours experienced? I find it like ear cropping vets, the ones that feel they are the best tend to be the worst...
Also if your vet isn't particularly experienced with ultrasounds to detect pregnancy, i wouldnt lose hope. I still feel very confident my girl is pregnant, you cant help but notice the signs. If there's a small litter he may have missed them also.
Hi Axe97,
How is your girl behaving this week? Any more symptoms?
By Axe97
Date 01.05.15 12:04 UTC
Hi!
Still progressing with her "false" symptoms. Her teats are hard tissue building underneath & sagging.. She's thrown up 4 times today weirdly. Still has the clear discharge.
Quite soul destroying for us both. Monday will squash any doubts I have. Then it's on to planning the next try.
Not sure how good my vet is at scanning as this is my first experience with all of this. She scanned her belly about 1/2 minutes before saying no nothing.

Only had one scan done before, but I used a sheep scanner on recommendation - much more experience than most vets.

Tried looking for one of them but sadly there's not to be found in my area.

Ear cropping is illegal in this country, so no vet does this. They would be struck off, and the dogs owner could be fined up to £20,000.
