I posted this on another page but it was an old post so thought I'd try here.I recently bred my yorkie. Before we bred her we had gotten some kittens, and she motherd them, ended up with them trying to nurse. We did everything to deter them. Now that she's pregnant she doesn't seem to be having alot to do with them, but I'm still cocerned with the problems dealing with cat litter. I can't recall what it's called, but anyways I know that the cat litter can be dangerous. The cats are outside and she's in side except to go out during the day. What I want to know is can my dog be affected just by being around the cats where she was prone to mothering them.Any info or oppinions would be very appreciated.

There are some risks to pregnant humans if they don't follow sensible hygene precautions when cleaning out litter boxes. I would have though that if you were following a regular worming regime and don't let your dog "clean up" after the cats there should be a very minimal risk.

If the cats have been around for awhile, it's more likely you've all already had a dose of the infection their faeces causes and have built up immunity. It's abit like having flu. Doctors are erring on the side of caution advising pregnant women to wear gloves when cleaning the litter tray or gardening as the virus can cause serious problems when you're pregnant.
